Pennsylvania State Senator Cris Dush (R - Cameron, Centre, Clinton, Elk, Jefferson, Mckean, Potter) just introduced legislation to change the state fossil from Phacops rana (a trilobite common to US 46 states) to Hynerpeton bassetti, a uniquely Pennsylvanian quadruped discovered in the 90s.
The name "Hynerpeton" is a portmanteau of its town of discovery, Hyner, PA, and the latin name herpeton, meaning "creeping animal."
Not to editorialize too much, but the Hyner Creeper sounds like a bona fide cryptid name, and I dig it. Godspeed, hynerpeton.
