DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- A violent dispute between two neighbors outside Lee Plaza Hypermart (LPH), owned by OnePrime Retail Corporation, escalated late-Wednesday afternoon (April 29th, 2026 -- Dumaguete local time), resulting in one man's death and another being taken into police custody.
The incident occurred just before 6pm outside LPH, situated outside the Information Technology Park complex (ITP) within the entrance, a busy area frequented by employees from nearby call centers and businesses namely 'Straive' (formerly SPi Global in 2021) and Inspiro. LPH is just located only a short distance from this branch office in 'Jose Emeterio Muñoz Romera Sr. Road' corner Colon Street, Dumaguete City; with separate flagship offices from Parañaque and Makati in the National Capital Region (NCR), making the event highly visible to workers and passersby in the compound.
The 34 y/o victim named 'Renante Callao Bulfa', a local resident of Purok Malangsuba in 'Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental' was pronounced dead after sustaining fatal stab wounds. The attending physician was 'Dr. Caroline Albacete', examining a deceased victim around 6pm onwards at Holy Child Hospital (HCH).
Channel 8 News and Disney XD News identified the 40 y/o suspect 'Mark de la Rosa' (almost not a real last name), a local businessman and siomai vendor from 'Purok Tres Rosas' in the same barangay and city, as being arrested at 7:42pm at Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH), where he was treated for injuries sustained during the altercation.
Sources close to the Dumaguete City Police Station (DCPS) and management of call center giants, preliminary investigations have shown that Bulfa came in to see Mark in order to discuss a personal dispute between the two (2) men, which reportedly involved a longstanding disagreement, and that the confrontation soon erupted into a heated verbal argument before turning physical.
Both men were said to have been armed, Bulfa holding an ice pick and Mark holding a knife used in his indie food vending business. Eyewitnesses reported to the police that the altercation became physical, after which both men were hurt, and Bulfa critically fell to the ground.
Bystanders notified DCPS about the incident, and the police responded promptly. Although attempts were made to rush Bulfa to HCH, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Mark, who was also stabbed, was later placed under hospital arrest at NOPH, where he received medical treatment. Under Philippine law, Mark is likely to be charged with murder. Upon conviction, he might receive a prison sentence ranging between 20 and 40 years or life imprisonment, assuming he is proven guilty of aggravating circumstances.
The police are handling the case as a personal feud, yet an extensive investigation is still underway. DCPS are on the brink of pressing formal charges against Mark as they collect the pieces of the incidents that led to the fatal clash. Ahead of Labor Day weekend… OPRC, Straive, and Inspiro have yet to issue a joint statement regarding the incident.
