Most hypnotic subjects want to be hypnotized. Some might even need it — like a drug. Well, there are worse addictions.

But back to the point: once you reach the deepest layers of trance, most don’t want to come back.

That’s why careful counts or suggestions are needed, to guide them safely out.

And once they do, something interesting happens: the afterglow.

When a subject is deepest, freed from the chains, they’re most suggestible. Erickson often used this moment to gently slide in suggestions for lasting change.

These changes can persist beyond trance — post-hypnotic suggestions.

A thoughtful hypnotist leaves behind feelings of ease, pleasure, calm, relief from pain. And those feelings can linger today, tomorrow, the rest of the week… even the month.

You wake up. It’s another day. And somehow… you’re in a good mood. Things that would normally annoy you at work no longer do. Your mind, once manipulated, is quietly better.

I don't quite remember when all of

the shenanigans started this time

When you greeted me I could tell that my thoughts were already going- something you loved to tease me over. No worries though, I was thirsty, so getting water would be a necessary distraction to help regain my composure.

As I made my way back to my seat I felt my knees buckle as I gripped my water bottle not nearly as tightly as I clung to my consciousness.

After sitting down all I can remember is that fuzziness again.. what was it that you said to me? Er- About me? You called me... Something? Something you called me made me flustered-

you could tell by the look on my face

I was past fractionation by then

I tried to play it off- “I mean it’s not like that would get me off anyways.” Just… a noise I thought.

I got myself up off of the floor and onto my seat

“How can I brat under these conditions?” I joked

“Oh? What conditions” they chuckled.

I laughed. “Nefarious ones!”

They scoffed, “nefarious ones? That hurts my feelings” before feigning a sulk.

“you know what I mean” I sighed, “Hmph! Y’know what? I’m totally fine…” I pursed my lips and crossed my arms as I summoned up what had now become my newly regained resolve

“Mhm… yup!” they nodded, “You’re totally fine! everything’s completely normal…

Moan for me”

I did.

giggle

I covered up my face again.

“Yeah? Completely normal?” They taunted.

“completely normal… I’m totally in control

It’s funny to realize while mindless at the time

Which iteration/era of the hypnosis community (online or off) is or was your favorite?

It’s hard to answer this because my immediate answer requires So Many Caveats, but…

Gotta be the Great Expansion Era/Hypbook/Peak Hypno-Tumblr. Call it 2014-2016 ish.

It was when I really, finally started to feel like I was a part of the community, and also had the awakening that hypnosis was not a thing that I could keep suppressing. I found people who will be my friends for the rest of my life. I had experiences that changed me fundamentally. It was fun and new and we were clearly on the leading edge of something that is still happening to this day.

The “community” was small enough then that (arguably) a vast majority of people who were active in hypnokink knew each other. People who have found hypnokink more recently don’t grok that when I say it, but like… there were very, very few unfamiliar faces at cons. If the face wasn’t familiar, the scene name would likely be. People might have scenes with smaller groups, but like… *everyone* just hung out in con space, or had their hotel door open.

The community felt playful and joyful, like we’d stumbled across this thing we’d searched for for years. Because we did. The excitement was palpable and *grateful*. Also, it was (for the time) a profoundly queer space.

Now, the caveats: there were some horrific predators in the scene! So many middle-aged white men! So transphobic! We hadn’t adopted BDSM consent norms yet, so things were very fast and loose! Some of the folks running events had no damn business doing that.

But also? It felt like home, and I miss that feeling sometimes.
