I have a very vague memory of a Barbie movie being my hypno awakening when I was very little. I remember it had something to do with a necklace.

So I looked it up, and there are two Barbie movies that have a hypno scene involving a necklace:

Fairytopia has the protagonist hypnotized by the villain, she's forced to put a necklace around her friend's neck so the villain can have her powers

Then there's The Diamond Castle, where one of the main girls loses her necklace that protects her from the villain's hypnotizing music.

I like both of them, the Fairytopia one has the villain enchanting the protag with granting her something she's wanted all her life. It also has a repetition thing going on. The eye shot when she snaps out of it is cool, even if it is Barbie movie animation quality

But the Diamond Castle one has blank stare + no talking, and it has the trope of the hero watching their friend put themselves in danger, and then she gets to hold her limp unresponsive body which makes me go !!!!!!!!!!! Reminds me of She-Ra's Save The Cat episode. Ough

I wish more stories portrayed hypnosis like the altered state of mind that it is. It'd be hot.

For example, sometimes hypnosis is portrayed like: "Character gets hypnotized. They're fully aware, but can't stop themself from obeying the villain's commands. They're forced to just watch helplessly."

And sometimes it's portrayed like: "Character is basically asleep inside. Totally out of it. Once they snap out of it, they have no memory of what happened."

But I like the in-between. It's underrated and hot af:

Whumpee is just aware enough to know they're hypnotized. But they're too hypnotized to care that they're hypnotized.

Snapping out of hypnosis, rather than being like waking up from unconsciousness, is more like like suddenly snapping out of being drunk or high.

They remember being hypnotized. They remember feeling relaxed, and blank.

But they didn't even try to disobey, because trying to avoid being obedient when you're hypnotized is like trying to avoid being stupid when you're drunk.

In hindsight, you regret stupid things you did and said while drunk. But, in the moment, all your brain could do was go: "Hehe I feel silly."

Would love more hypnosis written like that.
