A funny thing I notice about Daft Punk's production credits is that they always test the waters, whenever they work with someone they haven't collaborated with before. You can see that in the case of The Weeknd, you can tell they both felt timid around one another on these two singles. The same can be said about their job with N.E.R.D., a hip hop supergroup. While the cooperation you can hear in the link does benefit from Daft Punk's studio skills, listen to these beats, this is still N.E.R.D.'s show. Sure, the melody goes to the weird places thanks to the French duo, but Pharrell Williams and his crew achieve the sound similar to their previous pieces. However, I have a hunch this joint effort paved the way for Daft Punk and Williams' massive hit.
