while it’s not stated, i feel it can be inferred that another unspoken reason snow killed sejanus was bc he loved him and he hated it. sejanus believed in the good of coryo so much that he was blinded to his true nature and i think that scared him because it required him to lie and mask his true self but if things had played out differently, if he sejanus had lived, he would always have to put on that performance and eventually, he would have to take off that mask and reveal himself. but that in itself requires vulnerability, honesty, and at that point in time, whose to say that overtime, he couldve been changed by him? he loved lucy gray but she also confused him with her enigmatic personality and he couldnt tell he if she loved him (she did, different convo) but with sejanus? he could never deny that and it made him angry because sejanus constantly challenged him and contrasted his belief system and self so much so that he had no choice to reflect and think about his actions. so he killed him. sejanus loved snow, hated him for doing so and punished him for it, because deep down, i feel he believes he doesnt deserve it bc he knows he’s a monster. it’s why he tries to believe and convince all of panem with the hunger games, that human beings are selfish, violent, and cruel. because if there is an alternative, if there a way of human nature that is not harming or taking another life in the most dire of circumstances, he killed not one, but two loves of his life.
