there’s this part in chuck palahnuik’s “consider this” where he talks about how the best books tell a story that only the medium of a book can present and i think that’s what is so off putting about the uglies adaption. that is a story that can only be told through text to add any visual elements erases enough of the readers authority and perception of the story to just have it be a completely different thing

#i haven’t read uglies since elementary school but it was the first book i read where i remember thinking how cool books were as a medium #that part in the palahnuik book is really interesting it’s really interesting as a whole but i apply that concept to almost all of the media #i consume #like why does this game work best as a game. or would it work better in a different medium.#and this isn’t to say that there can’t be good adaptions but i think good adaptions have to be made with a fundamental understanding of both #the medium of the source and the medium of the adaption #this is also why i think a lot of live action shonen adaptions don’t work. lol #el.txt
