It's been two years since I started to learn to draw, and it's STILL a challenge to draw humans!
I wanted to emulate ukiyo-e in certain areas to represent tradition, but I don't think I did that really well.
Typical of Lyn, the title hides an Easter egg. The correct word for "beloved" would have been 受宠, and "groom" should actually be 新郎。
寿 [shòu] is a homophone (they are pronounced the exact way) of 受 [shòu] , meaning "age; years."
幸 [xìng] is a synophone (they sound similar, but not exactly so) of 新 [xīn], meaning "lucky; fortunate."
Put them together, you'll get 寿幸。"Kotoyuki."
I started making this piece last September... and only now is it completed. My speed (more like the opposite of it), my lack of free time, and my being an amateur really show. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed making this one and didn't realize it basically functioned as my "examination piece" after doing monthly sketches of human beings.
Oh! I write meta essays about Silent Hill f! Okay, fine. There's only one so far. It was an analysis of the Default Ending.
This was an old art A Previous Version of Me I did back in the end of 2023 following a dream I had.
I was browbeaten into reading the manga by this asshole dear friend asshole @orange-peel-candy but ended up being so into it that I dreamed of this Same Asshole waving a copy of the manga, crying, "I got it! The last volume! Look!"
This was me (and my very amateurish artistic "skill") trying to replicate what I dreamed.
The back cover was supposed to show them holding hands. But I got stuck... because I didn't know how to draw hands properly. I still don't.
... Yea. When placed together, the hands looked like soggy, lumpy bananas.
This is why I stopped working on this and decided to just... learn how to draw humans properly.
Either way, it's taking me forever to be good enough to remake this, so hey! Why not just post it already, yea?
So, uh, this is what I've been working on while Atom, the laptop, was under repair. It's my latest favorite thing. I mean, favorite enough to make me draw something. And I almost never draw; even if I do, it's always just triangles (which made it in, anyway. Hikaru's body, you see?).
I'm not good at art (understatement), but I genuinely adore this story and the characters—that somehow translates into me doing strange things like this!
Of course, it's because someone-I-shall-not-name strong-armed I mean encouraged me to draw this thing, and then another-someone-I-shall-not-name told me to keep at it. I also strangely found myself quite zealous about finishing the piece too. Took me a week, and at least 5 out of 7 days were used on that eldritch meat tendrils. Yea, I know. I am slow. In more ways than one, ahahhaha!
Oh. As usual: I snuck in some details in there. It's kinda a Lyndisian trait to do this. The detail is only visible in Neck, due to the black background. The alt description gives the answer away, though.
Ah, this shit is getting animated! I can't wait to watch it with the first someone-I-shall-not-name!!! But I hate it when a year goes by too quickly...
The manga is really good. I really love it, even if I failed to see the love part of Boys' Love. All I can see was "the kind of friendship I lowkey desire." Ah, but I also just like the philosophical themes in it. And the horror. The ghosts here are very cute.
If you are myopic or something it will look realistic by taking off your glasses. If you're not myopic please do the old 2 meter social distancing so it will look realistic.
Close up and reference under the cut.
There's no deeper reason to this. I just had some free time that I desperately needed... and got it. I had a tantrum over drawing at the beginning. And also, I didn't know how to use this new drawing app or its pens. So this is as good a "study" (or whatever you call it) as any.
Since I've decided to redo these hands someday when I'm free, I guess I'll just dump them here for posterity and to add some meat to the #I cooked. tag.
I've been trying to learn to draw since 2024 but I keep running into one big problem: humans are hard to draw.
Sorry, let me rephrase that: humans are hard to draw as fuck.
So last year, one of my resolutions was to make a monthly sketch of a human head. Could be a manga panel (it usually is) or something else. I managed to complete this until September, but only because starting the end of September I ended up meeting a muse and had been working on it till this year—not knowing it has become my "examination piece."
Behold, my Sketches-in-Review!
JANUARY
张灵玉 (Zhang Ling Yu) - 《一人之下》 (The Outcast)
Goddamn, January's Lyn gave him some meat! He's like... rounder! Bigger! Chubbier!
※※※※※
FEBRUARY
Okkotsu Yuta - Jujutsu Kaisen
This time, February's Lyn gave him less meat!
※※※※※
MARCH
"Hikaru" - The Summer Hikaru Died
I don't even know what to say about this. Clearly, drawing from angles was not March Lyn's game.
※※※※※
APRIL
Murota Kei - Welcome Back, Alice.
This one was frustrating. Despite working so hard on it, the end result just looks like a nondescript blond woman instead of Kei. She doesn't look anything like Kei. This drawing took out a lot of confidence, and one could not help but be deeply demoralized.
※※※※※
May
Mokume - The Urban Legend Files
.... However, Mokume restored my confidence a little! She turned out far better than May Lyn pessimistically thought!
※※※※※
June
Urashima Yuutaro - The War of the Adults
Started working a bit more on coloring, too! The angle game was still not as good as one would like (damn, your forehead is wrong), but the end result looks pretty damn good if I do say so myself!
※※※※※
July
No sketches. It was a very, very hectic month. Before we know it, it's August already.
※※※※※
August
Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd - Fire Emblem Three Hopes
At this point, one may think this was going to be the peak, and nothing else could be better. No one expected the sketch to look this decent, and I almost have to suspect this is just my Dimitri bias somehow working its way into August Lyn's sketch. I see no other good explanation!

September
The Buddha—from this comic book a Thai friend/auntie gifted me years ago.
September was one of my dearest friend's birthday, so September's Lyn decided to draw something that would delight him to double as a birthday gift. The result? The best fucking thing we have ever made. Even now it's still one of the pieces I like to look at from time to time. I can't believe we made this.

October onward...
The original models were:
October: Aoki Yuuki, To Your Eternity
November: Tokinaga Sachiyuki, After God
December: unknown.
However, I was caught up with drawing another guy with "yuki" in his name: Tsuneki Kotoyuki. That ended up taking the rest of the months up till today, January 18th, 2026. You can see it here.
Sketching human beings (and coloring them) has been a lot of fun, so I wanna do it again this year! I already have a muse for this month...
