When a werewolf is turned they remain in their wolf form for most of their existence, only turning back for their mates-mates that are extremely rare to find.
Aemond has been a werewolf since the Dance of the Dragons was nearly at an end-being mauled by a ‘wolf-like creature’ on the battlefield and left to turn alone. He has been residing in the woods of Westeros for a long time, nearly 170 years and now he has finally found hope in an existence that is not so lonely anymore…
(I was so excited to read this request cause it’s right up my alley of weird! I love writing monster fics! Give me more delicious monster fic requests for Aemond or Klaus and I will be a happy writer indeed💕)
He had been turned before the end of the war and had been alone ever since.
There were other werewolves in the world of course, however they were solitary creatures that were very protective and possessive of things they deemed “theirs” such as their territory and their mates. Even if they weren’t solitary, the image of a huge werewolf able to walk on its hind legs with an almost humanoid visage was terrifying to humans. Aemond let enough of them go to spread the word about how terrifying and dangerous he is, anyone who comes looking for him after that is just plain stupid.
Aemond had been living in the woods along the Kings Road since he “died” and there were many stories of course, about how he wasn’t really dead and how it’s a strange coincidence that right after the One-Eyed Prince died suddenly peasants began seeing a One-Eyed werewolf instead…not many people believed it as far as he could tell. It was shocking to most people when they saw him before he slaughtered them.
Over the last nearly 200 years he had been hunted many times and over and over again he would string the hunters up on the edge of his territory to warn off more would be hunters. All other werewolves that lived on this side of the Wall he had hunted and killed leaving only him-though he’s sure the Wildlings had to deal with many more fleeing once he started killing them. Now the entirety of the land from the Starks in the North to the Red Keep was his territory…and everyone knew it.
The most important thing to a werewolf-Aemond had come to learn-was their soulmate.
There weren’t many humans that could be a werewolf’s mate, the few that could being the only people alive able to bear pups for a werewolf which-as a species-could no longer have children without a mate-the wolf scenting the potential in their blood upon smelling them. Aemond had only ever found one and she was already mated which sadly had gotten her killed when her mate decided to challenge Aemond for his territory. (Fights over Aemond’s territory were common-he took it for a reason-hunting on the Kings Road was very easy as was hiding in the woods surrounding it-unlike the territory North of the Wall which is where most of his kind resided thanks to him). Upon watching her mate die she tried to flirt her way into his home it seemed however Aemond had never cared for sluts. He wanted a mate- to be sure-more than the One-Eyed wolf wanted anything else-but he wanted a mate that would be his and his alone. A lovely mate whose affections he could win and that he could keep in his home all to himself.
Aemond didn’t expect to find that sadly, after all this time he had almost given up hope. He most assuredly did not expect to find his mate with the only family Aemond had left in the world.
Daenerys Targaryen was the last of their line and the Queen of everything except Kings Landing, though it seemed she had gained the favor of most of the people in the North as well as the Wildlings. It would seem she also had the favor of a wonderful smelling girl that she kept in her close circle-one that Aemond was determined to make his from the moment he caught her scent on the wind.
And so he did, from the moment he caught the beautiful floral scent he began following the army that made their way towards Kings Landing and he made it very obvious that he was following them. He knew that someone advising the Queen would know what he was and that this was either very good or very bad for them depending on how the Queen responded.
Thank God for Daenerys that she had good people surrounding her.
‘The beast has been following us all day now, he’s been spotted multiple times and for a creature like this we know that means he wants to be seen.’ Jorah explained, the Queen looking truly startled by this.
‘Do we know why it may be following? Can we give it some food and maybe it will be on its way?’ Daenerys wondered but the men all seemed to know that was impossible.
‘We tried feeding it, even though we doubted it would work. A werewolf like this, traveling this far alongside us, means that this whole road is his territory-this wolf has been spotted many times over the last hundred years at least. To live in this prime spot means he is strong and resilient. He has all the food and space he needs, having to at least have killed several other wolves over the years-probably a lot more than several- for the Kings Road as a territory…a creature like this only wants one thing my Queen.’ Missandei clutched the Queens hand as well as Y/n’s, knowing what Jorah was going to say and praying that it wasn’t them.
‘And what might that be?’
‘A mate.’ Tyrion spoke, the Queens eyes going wide in shock, looking around as if expecting someone to say it was a joke. ‘It must have scented a potential mate, very few human women are able to carry werewolf pups and if they’re not already able to then the human woman won’t survive the turning process into a werewolf themselves. That’s why almost all werewolves are males…this beast will slaughter everyone until it gets the mate it is searching for.’
‘However!’ Jorah cut in, trying to comfort the Queen who was worried for her friends. ‘It hasn’t attacked yet, this wolf is still a man and can think logically. It may be giving us a chance to give him his mate without bloodshed or even wanting to join his mate wherever she goes-it’s rare but it happens. Keeping their mates happy is typically a priority for a wolf that expects his mate to bare his young. Some are cruel and murderous but if this one was then I believe he would have started ripping people apart already.’ Daenerys nodded slowly, taking it all in and standing from the table.
‘How long do you think he will wait?’ Jorah and Grey Worm both shrugged.
‘After all this time? Night fall maybe? That may be when he decides to start looking for her himself.’
The Queens eyes went wide in surprise before she turned to her captains. ‘Tell everyone not to engage the wolf! Tell them to let him be, he may roam wherever he bids! We will figure out what he wants, if we attack him we lose people that we don’t need to lose!’ She insisted and the men ran off to spread the word. ‘Okay…we need to find him ourselves and learn who this mate is. Once we do we may have ourselves a potentially wonderful ally.’
‘But my Queen…there are not many women that it could be…’ Missandei spoke up and Daenerys sighed.
‘I will come with the both of you-‘
‘No!’ Y/n insisted, everyone looking shocked at the usually silent girl. ‘No your Grace. We would not risk your life…we will go alone until we know that he will not harm anyone.’
She was shocked but agreed none the less, Missandei taking Y/n’s hand in hers and turning to walk from the tent. ‘I’ve heard legends about them since I was a small girl…they are vicious and aggressive to anyone that is not their mate. The few people lucky enough to witness the relationships have said they cherish their mate and pups…I hope it’s true…’ she mumbled as they got closer and closer to the back of the formation. As they got to the back, exiting the end of the tents and people setting up their things in the large clearing they looked around, unsure. ‘So…what now? We just walk into the woods and see what happens?’ Missandei asked, stepping into the trees with Y/n by her side tightly while walking towards the river.
‘Okay…this is fun…anticlimactic I feel.’ Y/n joked as she looked up at her friend who was several inches taller than her, tall enough to now be looking directly over her head with wide, terrified eyes. ‘It’s too late to run…huh?’ She nodded slowly and Y/n turned around slowly, looking back to see the wolf on all fours as it stared back at them from where it was standing in the tree line. At that moment Y/n realized that it wasn’t looking at them…no, it was looking at her.
‘Oh Gods…I don’t want to die like this…’
‘You’re not going to die-‘
‘I can’t die like this!’ She whimpered, Y/n feeling her drop her arm.
‘Missandei! He’s not going to-Fuck!’ As Missandei took off Y/n turned to run after her, hearing the wolves paws smacking the ground instantly and she tripped over a thick root in the dirt, skidding to a stop awkwardly her feet planted on the ground and pressed her back into a tree where she sat painfully. She held her eyes closed hard at the same moment that she dug her finger nails into the dirt-her ankle on fire where she had fallen over the tree root, one moment later a loud sniffing noise moved over her face and down her body. ‘Oh Gods…please…please don’t hurt me…?’ She pleaded and a soft whine rang out before something heavy was settled onto her lap and she opened her eyes to see the large beast had laid himself across her lap and looked up at her with one soft purple eye while the other had a deep gash over where the eye should be. ‘Aww…sweet boy…what happened to you?’ She asked, as if she would get an answer as she pet over his face tenderly, the beasts tail moving quickly behind him-wagging rapidly. ‘So…you were following this because of me? Huh?’ He nodded his head, leaning close and pressing his nose to her jaw. ‘Well…how about some dinner? They have to have caught something to cook by now...hungry?’ He tilted his head curiously but nodded once, his head jerking down before he stood from her lap and tucked his head under her legs as she stood up which lifted her feet from the ground quite a bit making her gasp loudly. ‘No! No, no! Put me down! I’m too heavy for this!’ She complained and the wolf snorted as if she was hilarious, turning around and walking back towards the camp. All of the men stared as they came back to the camp, the large wolf not seeming disturbed in the least before Jorah shouted her name making her sigh in relief.
‘Thank the Gods! Are…Are you alright?’ He asked as he approached slower than normal for him.
‘I’m fine, just hurt my ankle running.’ As he held his arms out to lift her the wolf growled and Jorah jumped back. ‘It’s okay. It’s just Jorah, he’s my friend-‘ he snorted, stepping around him and into the Queens tent.
Missandei gasped, Tyrion, Grey Worm and the Queen turning to see the giant black wolf that had waltzed right into the tent. ‘Oh my Gods! Are you okay?’ Daenerys was the first to move and approach the wolf, hesitating as he growled-though much more softly this time.
‘Hey! You can’t growl at her! I’m putting my foot down on that one, you cannot just be mean to my friends and family! You can growl at everyone else, and you can kill other soldiers all day long if you’d like-but not them!’ Y/n warned him as she slid down his side onto her feet. He looked shocked but after looking into her eyes a moment he sat down. ‘My ankle is killing me, and you! You abandoned me!’
‘I’m sorry! I panicked!’ She rushed, moving to hug me as well as the Queen.
Only a few moments later we were eating dinner, the Queen ordering several chickens to be brought for the Werewolf now in their tent which were plucked and given to him cut up which he appreciated-eating quickly.
‘It really is astounding. I never thought I would see a werewolf in person, and to see the intelligence…you’re thinking through every possible scenario of what could happen in this tent-I can see it in your eye.’ Tyrion spoke, the wolf glaring at the Hand of the Queen. ‘You know, there was an old legend about who this wolf was.’
‘Really? Who did people think it was?’ Daenerys asked.
‘Your great uncle, Aemond Targaryen. He was killed on the battle field, rumored to have been ravaged by a “human like wolf”, then a month later people were being hunted by a one eyed werewolf.’
‘Do people really think that he’s Aemond Targaryen-‘ Daenerys was cut off by a loud bark making everyone look to him. ‘The Kinslayer?’ He whined a bit but nodded his head up and down. ‘Are you really? I never thought…I can honestly say that is the last thing I expected. I have some family left after all.’ The Queen half smiled.
‘The family you have left is a Kinslayer that is a werewolf-here to take your best friend away from you-‘ Tyrion was suddenly cut off by a loud growl, Aemond stepping closer to the dwarf with his teeth bared when her voice stopped him.
‘Aemond!’ She called, his ears hearing his name once again and spoken by his perfect little mate. He turned his head and moved back to her side, looking up at her as he rested his large head on her lap-she was lovely. She made all the years waiting worth it, her soft (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes were gorgeous and he wanted more than anything to trace his tongue over every inch of her flesh. He couldn’t resist licking her hand from where he rested against her and she giggled, petting his head before scratching him behind the ears which felt so wonderful that he bared his throat to her as she kept scratching.
‘Alright. I suppose this means that he will stay with you in your tent tonight, my friend. We shall forego guards outside-something tells me you have all the protection you will need.’ Daenerys spoke up and Y/n smiled, leaning down and kissing his muzzle.
‘Yeah, you’re plenty protection, aren’t you?’ Aemond rumbled out a soft confirmation before following as she stood up. ‘I will see you in the morning, I’m sure Aemond will be quite happy to help in the battle tomorrow. Jaime Lannister will not know what to be more frightened of, the Dothraki, the Dragon or the Werewolf.’ She joked making Daenerys laugh.
‘Good night-and good luck.’ She said as Y/n left the tent.
‘It feels strange walking around without guards. I mean, I’m not scared but walking around an army without at least one guard is really strange.’ Aemond nudged his head against the back of her leg as he followed her, looking around at everything as they went. She was almost back to her tent when she walked right into the chest of a man the clearly stepped in front of her on purpose.
‘By the Gods, if you aren’t the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life-who let a little girl like you walk around here all by yourself?’ He asked with a smirk on his face-clearly not having seen Aemond yet as his hand caught her waist when she moved to take a step back.
Y/n felt fear settle in her belly, her hand moving back and feeling the course fur against her fingertips as he moved around her, teeth bared as the growl rumbled out louder than anything else around them, almost all sound cutting out as people heard it and looked to the beast. ‘I’m not by myself. You really should have kept your hands to yourself-didn’t your Mother ever teach you that?’ Y/n giggled as the man stepped back. ‘That’s my tent there, come on in when you’re done.’ She told him and Aemond made a ‘yip’ noise in response as she walked into her tent, hearing the screaming as men cheered Aemond on while he (Y/n assumed) ripped the man apart. She had just finished changing into her nightdress when he came in, muzzle covered in blood. ‘Oh Gods! Alright, stay right there! Do not get onto that bed!’ She demanded, moving to the table and pouring the water pitcher into a bowl and dipping a clean cloth into it as she knelt down, cleaning off his mouth and nose, ringing it out before setting it again and cleaning off the rest of his face and all of his paws before he could hop into the bed. Y/n turned to hang the cloth up before hearing a series of loud snapping sounds, and suddenly the large black wolf was no longer a wolf but a rugged looking man with hair as white as her Queens. ‘Y-You’re human!’
He looked unsure for a moment as he opened his mouth to speak, clearing his throat quickly. ‘I have a human form-wolves really only access it while courting their mate. You have no need of being human anymore once you’re a werewolf…you’ll understand soon…Gods you are gorgeous! You will be the most beautiful wolf the world has ever seen, just wait and see.’ He smiled as he pulled her closer to stand in front of where he sat on the bed. ‘I am truly sorry that I no longer have the face of a Targaryen but I promise you, you will never want for anything in a mate that I will not provide.’
She had to chuckle at that and he looked at her confused as he leaned closer, taking in her scent when he nuzzled her chest. ‘You’re joking, right? Aemond, you’re beautiful. I don’t care about a scar. You’re already a good mate…I don’t know if I’m ready for…everything tonight-I’m um…’
‘Shh, rest now my love. No one will ever force you to do something you’re not ready for. Just come, let me hold you.’ He covered his lower body with a separate blanket so that she was less intimidated before pulling her close and nuzzling into her hair as she rested her head on his naked chest. She fell asleep quickly, snuggled into his warm body and he drifted off content with his mate in his arms for the first time in nearly 200 years.
The next morning they were awoken by Jorah who called her name before walking in. ‘Get dressed, we will be moving soon.’ He told her, Y/n realizing that she was snuggled up against a fluffy wolf and no longer a man which made her frown, Aemond licking over her cheeks sweetly and making her giggle.
‘Okay! Stop it you big fluff ball!’ She laughed, scratching behind his ears before getting up and stripping off her sleep clothes and getting changed into the dress laid out for her by the lovely maid. Her ankle was still sore but it wasn’t as bad after giving it some rest and so she walked out of the tent and towards Daenerys without trouble-Aemond following close behind as he didn’t trust any of the men here-the Dothraki being way too rapey for his liking around his mate.
To say that Aemond enjoyed ripping people apart would be an understatement but as the army charged towards the Lannister forces he was a bit giddy at getting to mercilessly kill people again without worrying about drawing attention to himself. He knew that his mate was a safe distance away and he didn’t need to worry about her though he still found himself looking back at where she was to make sure no soldiers had broken through the line and gone after his mate and the rest of them that stayed back.
The army was taken out with no problems-they definitely still would have lost without the help of Drogon and himself but they’d definitely made it go quicker.
Aemond had agreed to stay with the army until they took the throne for their Queen, the one that promised to outlaw the hunting of wolves whose numbers were dwindling-and he couldn’t deny the urge to see a Targaryen on the throne again. Y/n had come this far and she refused to leave before seeing her friend on the throne, even if she knew that as a werewolf Daenerys would still want to see her, it didn’t matter.
As they got to Kings Landing Y/n considered it a good thing that they had stayed-Cersei having taken possession of Missandei as a prisoner from Euron Greyjoy and trying to use her as a bargaining chip. Aemond had snuck into the city and easily killed the guards to get into the tower overlooking the front gate-slaughtering the guards and tackling The Mountain away from the girl who began running down the stairs and towards the front gate. Aemond stayed close behind as she got to the gate and pulled the lever to open it, the werewolf once again dispatching the guards before they could grab ahold of her.
Getting in through the gate definitely made a difference to their attack, quickly crippling the numbers of the soldiers inside the city. Daenerys also seemed to have no problem burning Euron Greyjoys ships as her army took the Red Keep.
The Queen was escorted into the Keep without any problems, Jorah, Missandei, Y/n and Aemond all waiting beside the throne for her and watching as she took her place on the Iron Throne for the first time. They all moved to kneel before her as Y/n placed a crown she had found as they stormed the castle onto their Queens head.
The people seemed to have no problems accepting her, especially as they all definitely saw Drogon flying overhead.
‘Thank you for being human for this.’ Y/n breathed, exhausted from the hours that Aemond had spent fucking her for the first time. He may have been in a human form but he was nothing if not animalistic.
‘Did you think I planned to fuck you in my wolf form for the first time? Oh Princess, no! I would never do that to you…at least not the first time.’ He teased, earning himself a small giggle.
‘No, I thought you would turn me first and make me a wolf…it’s nice that I got to be human and have a bed.’ She joked though she was definitely serious underneath.
‘No my love. We will go back to the forest tomorrow and I will show you the beauty of our entire territory that is waiting just for you…just relax for me.’ Aemond kissed over her neck, feeling her body relax into the pillows before digging his fangs into her soft flesh. It was only a moment before her body tensed up and she flailed around for a moment as the venom made its way through her body.
He waited beside her after shifting as she changed for the first time, licking over her snout and ears, grooming his mate as the venom settled and she was able to move again though she only snuggled into him more.
The next day they left the kingdom, Jorah and a few Dothraki escorting them to ensure they didn’t come to harm by any of the people on their way out-Daenerys offering them a place to stay anytime they wanted to visit.
After being away with the army for almost a month Aemond had a few wolves that had decided to push their luck and try and move into his territory which only gave him the chance to prove himself to his mate as a strong Alpha which resulted in the kind of fucking that Y/n had been expecting.
They visited the Keep often-once every few months-though most of the time was spent together in their den while Aemond tried his damndest to fill that den with pups. He would eventually succeed, leaving Aemond with everything he had wanted for over 100 years-a perfect mate, beautiful pups and a perfect home. It was the perfect life and he knew he would have waited 1000 years if he’d needed in order to have it.
