all the veilguard commentary on the dash... i think there's been, frankly, this eruption of Gamers (with a capital G) who just want to get mad at things. they want to hate it because hating it loudly on the internet where they can get validation and/or arguments fuels whatever flicker of dopamine they get from perceiving themselves as being justified in their hate of a thing

because it's not just veilguard, man. it's veilguard and it's avowed and it's fable and it's world of warcraft and it's diablo and it's last of us and it's anything that dares have any personality beyond call of duty

this doesn't include, of course, measured criticism. there's a difference. there's a stark difference between not vibing with a particular something or criticizing something for being innately problematic (hogwarts legacy) and blindly hating on something they only literally played for an hour free on game pass or haven't even played beyond watching already biased reviews

the tl;dr is engage with social media regarding games you enjoy with caution. curate. block freely. don't dip into the comments of something you know is going to be ragebait. because there is this really angry little anonymous ball of people on the internet who just love to hate and love to get reactions and i swear to fuck hating things has become the new enjoying things in their circles
