The computerized buzz-beep-chime of the side front door drew Maikel's attention, and she wondered what fresh hell had walked in.

Maikel perked up in delight as she recognized two of her favorite regulars. Not only were they regulars, but they were Starfleet Officers. Not only were they Starfleet Officers, but they were two legends, both of whom with well-known names and equally famous reputations. Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Spock. She knew them by sight, and so did almost everyone who ever kept up with the news of, well, anything related to Terra. At least everyone should know them on sight, Maikel thought as they approached the counter.

“Ah, Maikel, when are you going to stop captaining a shift here and start training to captain a ship instead?” Captain Kirk asked her with a smile as he planted his hands on the countertop.
