Shoma - Japan Open 2019
As I am currently a bit unavailable because of the Artistic World Championship, I tell it blankly:
I don't care for Japan Open, because 1st scores don't count anyway, 2nd it's a fun team competition held in the beginning of a season
Fact is that Shoma didn't present a good program there, he had many many mistakes and a layout he is not used too (when did he do a 2A the last time?), I am not saying it isn't a good step to reduce the BV if a program isn't ready, just a new strategy might not always lead immediately to expected results
I think we shouldn't lose our mind because of one bad skate (did you remember Nathan's FS last JO? It was a disaster, the only one with a decent program was Shoma there, where did it lead in the season?) Predictions are hard to tell and often things don't go as expected. That's life.
As the scores don't count I wouldn't worry about how low they were and btw if those scores would count he would still have zhe 3rd highest FS score for this season atm (Also even if he would do only two quads in the FS, he had a fall and only did one combo and he could definitely repeat a much worthier jump than doing a 3A - that's definitely not his layout for the full season)
Let us not forget that he usually already skated his program in front of an audience in ice shows and had a program usually created back in July, now it was September, of course the program isn't ready
We can take one good thing away from it, apparently judges still favor Shoma over Vincent, so who thought Shoma would now lose all comps to Vincent I guess your perception is wrong...
About Shoma's program:
I absolutely love it. New fresh style for Shoma and modern music. Great. (Still needs polish but it's a start)
Hello cantilever, how I missed you in the FS and now it's even in the SP it seems
And sparkly costume made an appearance! How I missed the sparkles! As it's Shoma I am pretty sure he already has other costumes for this program, but this one I like a lot.
I am excited to see it in GP France when the program is more complete. I also hope he has a better skate at Finlandia and does not withdraw - Rumor is that he has some boot problems...
Basically what I want to say is: It's not the end of the season, it's the start, so all we can do is wish him well and support him like the crowd did at JO!
Also this isn't directed at any hate speech that I read or anything negative I saw, just simply some of my thoughts thank you for reading my personal opinion
