i like when i go to kiss him & he flinches
I have been reading up more on the "non binary viking" with klinefelters.
This person was found in southern Finland, which notably was not norse. However, it was in a part of Finland with heavy cultural exchange with the norse, to the point they adopted jewellery, weapon styles, ship constructing, etc.
So of course the swords that people get hung up (there are two of them, which I'll get to) is that the most famous and complete of the two had latin inscription on the guard mentioning "the lord" as in the christian god. Which by itself is interesting both because it implies that this is post christianisation of the region (I can't find a specific date of when the burial is presumed to have happened, but I see 900-1000 years old mentioned everywhere, placing it post christianisation of the norse countries) and the import of christian ideals has notably roled back gender equality and gender freedom all over the world.
I will now get to why I didn't just put viking in quotes, but also NB.
This person was buried with two swords, one of which were placed after the burial took place.
The presence of weapons in general make people assume man, this is stupid and unreasonable because we have a lot of examples of women being buried with weapons, including swords, even to the point of there being separate practices for where to place the swords of female warriors, specifically that the sword was placed to the left of the buried woman, instead of the right with men.
This person was buried in a dress and typically feminine brooches and jewellery, this implied both that they were seen as a woman, but also that they had high status within this society.
They were also buried with a sword to their left. Some time after the burial, another sword was once again brought into the grave, and again. Placed on their left.
Since I do not personally have klinefelters, but another intersex condition entirely. I also decided to do my due deligence and do a bit of research on how it can potentially manifest in people.
The conclusion I came to, is that generally people with klinefelters will be born with a penis unless they have another overlapping intersex condition that leads to genital ambiguity, like sex discordant chimerism.
All of this leads to in my eyes, as a laywoman.
This person was an actual historical intersex trans woman.
There is really nothing that suggests she were viewed as anything but a woman in life, and thereafter by their society.
But people, including scientists, see penis and refuse despite evidence, to even entertain the idea that a person could be seen as unquestionably a woman.
And whilst she was not a "viking" (note: A scandinavian during the early medieval ages) and therefore can't be used as a direct example of how the norse actively viewed gender diverse people. It sure can show us that we need to look more into things before we assume that modern gendered oppression is as universal as we assume. We have already proven that female vikings and warriors were not unheard of, so this shouldn't be too surprising either
For Ryker: Have you ever considered growing your hair out? I think it'd look good on you.

Friends of Tumblr, if you ever worry that you aren’t important, please know that you have kept AT LEAST one person going through the darkness just by being around. I can’t speak for anyone else aside from myself, but that’s still one person that’s around today because of you.
I will be the first to admit that these past few years have been brutal mentally. Hell, these past few months have been some of my lowest since middle school, which is honestly impressive but that’s beside the point. I’ve had so many days where I’ve been stuck in my head, internally crying because nothing feels like it’s worth it. It feels like all there will ever be is work I hate, sadness, and loneliness.
BUT…
Then I come back on here.
Then I see you again.
I know how cheesy it probably sounds. It’s easy to say online friends make a difference but then wonder if that’s truly the case. There’s so many little details though that add up to big meanings.
Whenever the intrusive, depressed thoughts start creeping in, making me wonder if I should even bother trying to exist, I think about those little things.
I think about @wurm-food and how cool it is that someone enjoys digging into the emotions of Uta and the Red Hair Pirates as much as I do. Someone else cares about the same things I do.
I think about @sebbytheraccoon , Hex, and Cog - three other trans bros that all love Karl Heisenberg and so much of the Resident Evil community. @thatgoblin and I bonded over similar autistic experiences through this series too. Somehow, I managed to find others like me, people who don’t think I’m weird or crazy for being different.
On a similar note, @ochizokulevy and I can be neurodivergent together without worrying what the other will think. I happy flap any time I think about Wyper now because he’s a symbol of that. A side character now brings me remarkable joy because of who I associate him with.
I think of @icy-spicy and a simple movie ticket. I think about seeing Film Red in theaters - having shared camaraderie with an entire audience - all because someone that never met me face to face before thought I deserved to relax and have fun for once. I think about all the times this someone has made me feel deserving of love and good things, no matter what my own mind tells me.
I think of @samiraheaven93 and the hours upon hours of time spent sharing OCs together, sharing pictures of goats and red pandas to cheer each other up, or running jokes about frozen cucumber with @nijiryuu Lou and @jemichi90 . I get to feel like part of a family, no matter how far away they all are.
And dozens of others both still on Tumblr and long since gone that have been here.
You have kept me alive in so many ways. I wish I could articulate the unique ways you’ve helped me to each and every one of you, but I couldn’t do them justice.
I don’t know what 2025 or any other year will hold, but if there’s even a chance of staying with you all and continuing to love you, I think that’s more than enough reason to hang on.
