carlisle was afraid of very little. the thing he feared the most was losing his children, his family, and he did not take kindly to threats against them. but crowley wasn't a threat. in theory, sure, but not in practice. as long as carlisle had known him, the demon hadn't so much as hinted at hurting him or any of those he cared about. as much as crowley liked to act as if he was some evil entity, the vampire saw far through that. being born one thing does not define you. carlisle should know - his rebirth had left him with fangs and a thirst for blood, but he tried to be kind and compassionate every single day. eyes move up to meet crowley's, a near gentle grin on his lips, eyes crinkling slightly at the corners. ...sorry but I can’t stop thinking of Erasmus.....living it up in Patras....safe and sound....being doted on by Torveld....being praised for his grace n skill....slowly gaining the confidence to have his own opinions and state them.....
the first time Erasmus says he doesn’t want to do something it isn’t even to Torveld, despite Torveld’s gentle encouragement. It’s to a chambermaid who tries to get him to wear a tunic with scratchy embroidery and he asks if maybe he can try a different one
his heart is pounding
the words come out muddled
but the woman just smiles and asks him why he didn’t say something sooner and gets him a nice new soft tunic
after that Erasmus starts saying no to things more often, working up gradually from tiny things to even (!!!!!!!!!) asking if he can stay in bed to sleep another hour while Torveld goes out on his morning ride
Torveld’s eyes are shining with how proud he is
“of course, love” and he kisses Erasmus on the forehead and tucks the covers around him
Erasmus doesn’t even sleep for that hour he’s so excited and happy!! he did it!!!!!!
and he continues to gain confidence from there
listen I don’t care about realistic timelines the facts(TM) are that Torveld frees him
one day Erasmus is waiting by the docks to see the arrival of a visiting noble from Akielos (it’s Makedon. He didn’t want to come. Damen is sure it’ll be an international incident but Laurent has Plans and is sure it will be Great. They’re both correct) and in the flood of servants that bustle out there’s--is that--

they don’t let go of each other for like a full ten minutes
even then they stay holding hands for the rest of the day and several days after
even after they’ve been living together for years like when they’re in their eighties it’s a given that if they’re in the same room, they’re holding hands
