[When ripping off the band-aid won't cut it]
Whether it happens tomorrow or after the final episode of season 6 airs, how in the world do these two go public?
Because at some point, the parties who have a vested interest in keeping them hidden will all have fallen away. The secrecy and subterfuge (the so-called "f***ery") will no longer be necessary... and MAN OH MAN won't we all be:
• Glad that two lovely people who have given us so much of themselves can finally enjoy a full life without fear of exposure?
• Relieved that they can claim each other (and their children, since many of us think there are two) in interviews, acceptance speeches, and on red carpets?
• Satisfied that our gut instincts that told us back in season 1 that what happens when these two particular actors are near each other "isn't usual" were 100% spot on?
I mean, just imagine if a photo finally appeared of SC walking in public, lovingly and proudly hand-in-hand... it would be so lovely and positive. In normal circumstances, that would be all it would take for a celebrity couple to move from the shadows and into the light.
These are not normal circumstances.
Not after all the aspersions that have been cast toward desperate, delusional "shippers" (which isn't the right term anyway when a couple so clearly does exist).
Not after the visible pregnancy of 2016.
Not after the forced denials of IFH.
Not after the bevy of blonde accoutrements.
Not after the visible (albeit filmed out-of-sequence) pregnancy during season 4.
Not after the alleged engagement...
This has become a car crash of epic proportions.
Here's the thing: the concerted effort of sleight of hand, latergrams, false narratives, third wheels, and generally biting the hands that fed them and their careers *had* to have happened for a reason.
I have a theory. You have a theory. They might be one in the same, in that they may both relate to revenue... for Starz, via their simplistic pandering by making a happily-attached man appear single to keep women salivating and wanting more. (Golly gee whillikers, y'all really get us one-dimensional chicks.) Or maybe for S and C to be offered lucrative deals in exchange for maintaining plausible deniability (even though I feel sleazy and jaded even thinking that). Or maybe they just decided to keep their love life private. Sadly, this seems the least likely scenario to me.
Who will get the blame when it all comes out?
How do they extricate themselves from this mess without further damage?
Selfishly, I hope it's sooner rather than later, because this has gone on a really long time and it can't be healthy. And I hope it goes smoothly. And painlessly. And is well-received.
