"what are you doing out here by yourself?" to lucas!
the waiting room is quiet, a soft hum. it's thoughtful chatter between doctors and nurses, even those not employed here. it's like they don't want to wake the people resting, healing. sometimes he'd wish they'd be much louder, that it'd help her somehow. but even kate couldn't. he hears the question before he sees her, eyes far too focused on speckled and freshly waxed linoleum. when he looks up there's a touch of smile. “ robin? hey. ” he shifts forward in his seat, elbows leaning upon the stiff arm of an old chair. he's become familiar with them, which ones wobble on uneven legs, or which one creaks when you move to a specific side.
he glances between @wsqk945 and her hand, a paper bag with a neat fold on top. he can only guess what's inside... some odd flavored snack. he remembered the last one he'd been given to try, his lips twitch in remembering the taste. he'd already been here the last two hours, kate bush still turning in his head even after it'd stopped. he rewinded it twice. “ i was just visiting max, ” a pause, slight shrug. it's not an unusual place to find him. “ and erica had something to do after school. ” so it's just me today. he could of left already, but he waits for the feelings to settle down again, put them back in the places inside him before returning to a place she wasn't. clarity hits, his brows pinching. he's looking over her again as if to determine her state. “ wait, are you okay? ” visually, she seemed fine. no distress or dishevelment. lucas stands and the book bag on his lap drops to the ground.
