Like Scarlet Pimpernel is one of the first masked heroic vigilante we've got in the western literary canon as far as I can tell, the characters are all living doubles lives, it takes place in France...

Scarlet Pimpernel being set in the Terror does make the whole thing pretty depressing, I suppose, and it's always uncomfortable to let real world history and fantastical magical powers coexist in the same story 'cause something has to break. I'm not finding any Les Mis crossovers in my initial search either.
