Father left early for a meeting, but was in a good mood today -- he ate breakfast." Polite, answering the question in full; every bit the heir he is raised to be. "Have you slept well?"
He knows exactly what his younger self is doing. He too, was in those shoes, and he hasn't forgotten. But he aims to change things, just a little. Ease the burden the younger faces.
"Ah, thank you. I have slept well. And yourself?" he now focuses his question, to get the child speaking about his state, if at least eventually showing no hesitance to the elder Itachi, at least.
