She perches atop my heart like a dark-feather crowned bird ; those talons ever-sharp, curled tight 'round the heaving thing, keeping it close like some hard-won treasure ; her beak tucks low as if to sing in low warbles, 'I have you now as always, my darling, and there's no way free.'

You preach love, speaking it proudly like a second tongue. It becomes you and you are practically radiant with it, vibrantly manifest with the desire to welcome others into such an embrace, folding them in arms that would be willing enough to hold the whole world. But you've saved none of that love for yourself, instead having kept fed on scraps leftover from long-lived cruelty.
