"Can you please just go to sleep already?" you asked, steaming cup of tea in hand, peering through the doorway of the second bedroom of your apartment which had been dedicated as a shared art and music studio.
Changkyun looked up from scrawling in his notebook and retorted "I'm not human, therefore I don't need to sleep." As if to prove your point, he yawned, and you sighed, half affection and half irritation.
"Pretend all you like," you said, coming forward into the room and setting the mug down on his desk. "You need to sleep Kyunnie, you really can't keep going like this." You slid your arms over his shoulders and he immediately relaxed into your grasp.
"I know," Changkyun said, pressing his cheek into yours as the gentle heat of your embrace made him even sleepier. "But I also really need to finish writing this-"
"No," you said, cutting him off abruptly, "I don't care. You need to rest more, otherwise you're going to run out of energy and I can't let you do that, especially with another comeback coming up soon."
"I know," he repeated, voice apologetic, "but I really need to finish-"
"Fine," you said abruptly yet surprisingly gently, "I'll be in bed. And if you don't join me by the time I finish drinking this-" you grabbed the mug from its place on the coaster- "I won't come back and try again. I know there's no point. But I'll also lock the door and you can just spend the whole night working on lyrics that you could write in ten minutes when you're not about to fall asleep."
"I need five minutes," Changkyun promised as you walked away, knowing that your threats were completely empty, "just five minutes, love, and I'll be right next to you in bed."
You trusted that he would, and so you padded across the hallway to your shared bedroom, swiping your book from the bedside table and settling yourself back against the pillows. You quickly became immersed in the novel, the thoughtfully crafted sentences dragging you into the odd state of being that can only be achieved by reading.
Before you knew it, your tea was mostly drunk and your boyfriend was sliding under the blankets next to you.
"I did it," he said playfully, nodding towards your cup, "you haven't finished yet."
You hummed in agreement and downed the rest of your drink, setting the mug on the bedside table to be dealt with in the morning, book quickly joining it.
Glancing at your phone screen quickly before setting it on top of the book, you turned to Changkyun and said, "It's almost one, Changkyun. We've talked about this."
"I know," he said, ignoring your stern glare on favor it reaching across you to turn out the light, "but can you yell at me tomorrow? For now let's just sleep."
Your face softened as settled lower to lay next to him. "I'm sorry," you said softly, "I don't mean to yell at you, I'm just worried. You really don't get enough sleep."
"I know," he said, pressing a kiss to your shoulder, head resting on your arm, and you weren't sure what part of your statement he was aware of but you were glad that he was. Sometimes you wondered if you were too harsh on him, you knew how much the company expected from him.
You began gently running a hand through his hair, the motion comforting the both of you as the two of you fell asleep, warm, legs tangled together, and completely exhausted.
