★ NEPO BABY / BAND DR : INTRODUCTION !!!
Kristina Lois Pineda Pascual (born [REDACTED], 2005) is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for being the bassist and a vocalist of the pop rock band PointZero. Born to former basketball player Gabriel Pascual and Ekko frontwoman Ellen Pineda, she took after her mother by joining singing competitions as a young child before pursuing a career in music like her. Lois' songwriting partnership with the band's vocalist Rowan Callahan made her the co-recipient of multiple awards and nominations, cementing her title as a promising young artist.
Early Life
Born in Baguio City, Philippines, Lois was raised away from the spotlight with minimal media attention. Rare courtside viewings, runway shows, and the occasional paparazzi snaps were the only times you could get a glimpse of the young girl. Her mother made sure to keep her (and in the future, her younger sisters) exposure to the press at a minimum in hopes to have a private life.
At the age of 3, her family moved to Toronto, Canada to become closer to her father and his job. Due to their relocation, she was then raised between Toronto and the UK whenever her mother would bring her along for work. By 5 years old, she took interest in music and began piano lessons after discovering her mother was famous. Consequently, due to her mother's status and job, many of those that influenced her artistry were her mother and her musician friends. They have willingly taken on the role as bonus aunts and uncles in her life, constantly influencing her with music. Prominently, her godfathers, musicians Bono and Paul McCartney were very involved in nurturing her talent in music. Whenever she visited Ireland or the UK, either one of the two always made an effort to visit her.
By 2018, she has formed a band with three of her friends: Rowan Callahan, Noah Anderson, and Jayson Morales as a mini project. By uploading covers online and busking on the streets, the band gained enough traction to give them the confidence to upload their first official single in 2019. Since then, they've had continuous success, expanding and getting their reach internationally.
Present Day
Despite their newfound stardom, Lois and the band are grappling with the new attention placed upon them. Lois, being the daughter of two famous people, received backlash when the general public found out about the identity of her parents. Since then, she has proven with her abilities that she deserves to be in the industry as much as any other artist.
During an interview, her mother discussed her daughter's new career and her feelings when she first heard her daughter's voice on the radio. She revealed that,
"It was a surreal moment. [She] could recognize [her] daughter's voice from anywhere. It was a surprise to [her] because [Lois] didn't tell [her] anything about wanting to pursue a music career. If she had mentioned anything, [she] would have definitely helped in any way [she] could have."
When Ellen was asked about the discourse surrounding Lois being a "nepo baby," she responded with,
"Of course, [she] understand[s] that it's a privilege for her to be able to have different opportunities to develop her craft due to her parents' and their status. But, as a mother first, [she] would have wanted to provide the best of the best, especially when it comes to [Lois'] future. [She] know[s] what it was like to struggle getting into the industry [...] and [she] would never want her to go through that, never."
She concludes the discussion by noting that,
"Lois knows how to make [her] worry. Especially when [Lois] causally told [her] that there were times they had to sleep at a public place, crashed at someone's place, or buy a room at a random place just to perform a gig. But she's like, "[M]ommy, I want to prove to myself that I have the grit to be able to survive in an industry like this," and [she] support[s] the fact she's willing to do this the hard way—as hard as it gets for someone like her—but [she's] glad that [she] was able to raise a daughter who has the same passion and determination towards music."
Of course, the Pascuals experienced many highs and lows throughout the years. Lois later gained two younger sisters, born in 2016 and 2020 respectively. In 2022, after 16 years together, her parents separated and arranged joint custody of her and her siblings. Now, she divides her time between Toronto, New York City, and Dublin. To distract herself from all the negativity, Lois poured herself into music, work, and school.
After PointZero released their 2nd Studio Album in 2023, the band agreed to take a hiatus in releasing music—albeit without announcing it to the fans—and have decided to focus on themselves after their tour, with the occasional festival performances. During their break, Lois dedicated her time to post-secondary and has graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oxford with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2026.
Now, the band is back in the studio, ready to stir up the industry.
