Ok because you seem to be the expert I have to ask you: In season 2, in the 30 years later bits, when Julia digs out Michael, and asks him to bring her to the immortal child, they're talking about Sarah's, right? But Julia knows what happened to the child because she spend like 3 episodes helping Sarah get that thing out, right? Did I misunderstood something or is this is a plot hole?
Thinking back, I think the short answer is that it’s probably a plot hole (or at least something they didn’t get a chance to explain). But I’m all for theories on this show, so let’s work theories:
She’d definitely have known that he got off the island, yeah, with all the work she put into helping Sarah do just that.
I’m not sure how much she and Sarah kept in contact after everything went terrible (or how Sarah herself fared in the whole TXM7 outbreak) and we don’t know if she ever actually succeeded in letting her son grow. Given that Sarah was specifically working with fertility, especially irt immortal genes (since the immortal men were the only fertile ones at that point) I assume she probably figured out something. And if she did, after that long, her son could very well be up to like, his twenties or so.
I remember that as the show was airing, the main theory about Caleb’s identity was Sarah’s kid. The reveal that he was Soren was actually a real twist, because most people were very convinced he was the jar baby.
Julia initially went to the island looking for Alan. She knew that he would have at least the means to find a cure, given that he was the one who (with Hatake’s help) created TXM7 in the first place. So maybe she figured he would know where Sarah’s son was, or have a sample of the stem cells they needed, or something. Maybe if Sarah did manage to help him grow, Julia didn’t know that. Maybe Sarah never managed it and Julia’s legitimately looking for that immortal baby still in his jar.
And she wasn’t wrong, at least -- Alan did have the cure on the island, it just wasn’t in the form of Sarah’s son, but Soren instead.
The fact that she specifically tells Michael she’s looking for a child is strange, because yeah, she would have known Sarah got her son away from St Germaine. Maybe she thought Alan took him, which wouldn’t be too far-fetched given Alan’s apparent decline.
It’s almost certainly just a plot hole. But I like the theories.
