Depression is such an effective tranquilizer that it creates a great opportunity for plot twists in your real life. I have a pretty consistent opinion of myself which is "low" and "never ending guilt and shame for reasons I don't understand."

Recently received feedback from two different editing clients that started with "Please pass along to your editor that she is phenomenal at her job" and "I was blown away by the evaluation I received."

You always hear about how depression (and anxiety) lies to you and distorts reality, but there is logically knowing that and then there is like, physical proof of it and you are suddenly Neo in the Matrix jumping out of the fucked up little tube machine.

Any book recommendations?

Hello, hello, friends of the Pod (pondering mortality), I am once again looking for books that hit just the right spot. I've gotten some really great reccs in the past that love like The Lovely War and Nettle & Bone. (This my Goodreads too if you want to connect.)

I've been in a big fantasy mood lately so I've read a lot of that, but I'm happy to get into some romance or really excellent memoirs/historical nonfic as well.

Stuff I'm done with: Other books I've been really into are House of Hallow, A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson, A Memory Called Empire, The Flatshare, The Green Bones Saga by Fonda Lee, anything by T. Kingfisher and Naomi Novik, and if anyone knows similar titles to that! Big fan of unhinged fucked up ladies and their Determination.

I've been deciding about reading The Stolen Heir by Holly Black since I enjoyed the Cruel Prince series, but I can't decide if I like Holly Black's writing or if I just REALLY loved Jude. (No shade on H. Black of course).

I'm also down for some literary fiction in the vein of Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka, but it has to be like, really thoughtful blew-you-away. (Notes on an Execution did change me)

Stuff I'm not that down with: No YA please! I am taking a break from YA (outside of maybe the Stolen Heir) since the genre has not been sparking joy for me lately. It has mostly been sparking rage. I am probably just too old now.

Other authors I just don't mesh with are Becky Chambers (idk), Mackenzi Lee, Olivia Waite, and a lot of historical fiction just rubs me the wrong way--I studied history in college and everyone should be caked in a lot more manure and plague tbh. You don't want to kiss that man, Claire. He doesn't brush his teeth.

Though, if the book is good I am also down to suck it up.

I’ve never truly believed the hype around Tumblr shutting down, but am curious: do you all know which social media writers/authors are on? I like posting my stories online and I feel like either internet spots have word limits (Blue Sky) or aren’t really social media (AO3)

Week after week. Month after month. On the weekdays even. The Airbnb next to me hosts 12 people and these randos throw enormous parties and keep me up from 2am (when the bars get out) to 5am many nights. My landlord keeps promising to fix the acoustics. I can still hear every word they say.

I am this close 👌 to turning off the electricity to this whole fucking thing. I am so tired. I feel like shit. I just want to sleep and listening to other people do karaoke poorly at all hours is some form of retribution. I’m sorry god, I’ll be fucking good after this, just burn Airbnb or me to the ground, one of us has to go.

If I get one tiny sign I am turning the power off. The people at Airbnb don’t care, my landlord doesn’t care, I am this close to not caring anymore.
