Ohhhhhh, where do I start? I’m so done with this bullshit idea that there’s only One True Way to be a queer person in the world and it is defined according to a bunch of rules made up by ignorant-ass privileged whiners who are carrying on like the Sanvers storyline is the greatest civil rights offense since DOMA.

I cackled at "Feminist Highlander situation." Your entire reply to that (rather rude, might I add) anon was highly entertaining. Also, regarding the "scene has five women and can't even pass the Bechdel test" complaints, I feel like many of the people reblogging such things think that for a scene to pass the Bechdel test, the characters need to *never* mention a man, when that's not quite true.

Glad it could inspire a laugh. :D 

And as for the insistence that it has to be NO MEN, EVER...I have never heard that particular qualification, when it comes to the Bechdel test. As far as I know, the test goes a li’l something like this:

-Gotta have at least two women-Who talk to each other...-About something besides men.

Which. That scene...satisfies all three of those bullet points. 

(I mean...by that logic, do we also kick Wonder Woman to the curb, what with the mentions of ‘man’kind, and the ‘world of men?’)

The first thing I thought when I saw Alex show up in the flashback (other than, yay, I'm glad they had Alex show up since she's the reason Kara rescued that plane) is that she looked like Audra Levine. Freakin Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Always on the brain.

I finally got to watch this episode and I really liked it, holy crap! I loved that we got to learn more about Krypton and Kryptonian religion. That was so cool. (Also, poor Kara, she looked so horrified when she saw how the cult was twisting and perverting her religion... Weirdly enough, it kind of reminded me of how I feel whenever I hear about another Muslim terrorist attack (I'm Muslim, btw). Though that could just be me hardcore projecting.) Also loved seeing Kara and Alex save the day. :D

Yes! Oh man, Kara’s face about the cultural appropriation was so perfect. (And yikes, I can see how that might feel similar to what you’re talking about.)

Kara and Alex saving the day together was a nice moment, after there being so few of those last year.

Oh, I've definitely seen the last one, and I gotta say, that's the complaint I get the least. They're acting as if Maggie telling her once that she doesn't have to keep her feelings from her automatically means that Alex will just suddenly be open about everything. And anyway, it makes *sense* why she wouldn't want to talk to Maggie about it? Her wanting kids and Maggie not wanting kids isn't something that they can compromise on! And I'm sure Alex is worried that if she brings it up, it would most likely end their relationship, and Alex certainly doesn't want that! I don't understand why people think that's OOC or "unrealistic" at all.

Yup, exactly! She knows it’s a deal-breaker and she doesn’t want it to be, which is why she’s been keeping quiet and trying to see if she can put her own feelings aside. But she can’t. It happens. And that is way too big of a life choice to compromise on when you know one person or the other will ultimately have regrets.

Honestly, this kind of goes back to her saying last year that she thought there was something wrong with her for not liking her relationships. Like, here she is as happy as she’s ever been and yet she knows there’s still something not quite right about it.

Regarding the third point though, I feel like I probably missed that subtext because I was caught off-guard by Alex wanting kids. O.o I don't think it's total character assassination, OOC, whatever, though, but I was still surprised.

So, buzzy frequently makes fun of me because I take INTJ intuition to the next level sometimes, but I have a 90-page file of AU & character notes that goes ten years back and ten years forward from S1, that I wrote between March & July 2016, in which I covered all of this ground based just on what we knew of Alex and her family relationships up through 1x20.

Not a single thing the show has done with her character since then has surprised or confused me even a little. Alex at her heart is the most nurturing little bean in the history of time, and she has always subtly indicated that she, like Kara, actually craves normalcy/traditional things in her everyday life.

Plus, like. Her disguise when she was on the run in 1x18-1x19 was literally mini-Eliza.

I'm still just pissed off that people who have told me in real life they quit watching the show are reblogging bullshit posts about its "lack of feminism" like fuck off you don't even go here

I think there are multiple factors going on here, and only one of which is projection. If you look at Alex though from her historical perspective that the show has told though, this arc makes sense for her character. I even posted an analysis about it earlier.

Basically. I’ve been saying for months (as @volando-voy can attest), Alex wants to be her mom when she grows up. I haven’t seen the recent episode yet, but this was made blatantly obvious back in s1. 

Honestly, my snark about projection is my utter frustration with people who write character-in-name-only fics, using them as an avatar into some other fantasy that has no basis in their actual characterization. It’s shit like this that have basically made me stop reading Supergirl fic.

s3 is pretty good thus far but fandom is getting more depressing than season 2B. i haven't stopped unfollowing people since s3 started. My corner of fandom is getting incrementally smaller

s3 is basically a love letter to me from the show, with all the things I fell in love with in the first place. The fandom, on the other hand, has pissed me off to the point where I can’t even get the energy to write fic for it.

(Seriously, you want to know why I haven’t updated otterfic? Because fandom assholes make me wonder if it’s worth being associated. I don’t even write for these people, and they’re just a goddamn black hole of suck that’s destroying my motivation. And I’m even more pissed off at them because of that.)

But don't you see? The Ship trumps all! Who cares about Alex's happiness if it gets in the way of the Ship?! Goddamn, I haven't watched the episode either but I can already tell that the Discourse is full of shit. >.> (And for the record, this is coming from someone who does generally ship the Ship.)
