“I wish these wings tattooed on my back were real! Every day all I hear is arguing and screaming! Every day I come home to an abusive household! I just want to escape!” She screamed up at the empty grey sky. “ All I want to do is escape…” she said falling to her knees and weeping.
“Why do you cry, big person?” asked a little voice.
She was alone in a field. Where did that voice come from? She didn’t see any children around.
She got up. “Who is there?” She asked, wiping the snot that ran down her nose from crying.
“I’m down here!” The little voice shouted. “Look down silly, I’m in front of you! Why are you crying? Are you hurt?”
She looked down in front of herself, and was startled by what she saw. Standing on a rock and maybe five inches tall, was a little naked women, with wings like a dragon flies sprouting from her back.
The little persons face was young, and narrow. And she stared up with large green eyes, a curios expression on her face.
“So are you hurt?” The little person asked. “Is it why you are crying?”
“No… it is not.” She said, wiping the tears from her eyes. “Are you a fairy?” she asked.
The little person narrowed her eyes at her. “Yes, that is what you humans call us at least.” In a more perky voice she added, “My name is Adadelleia! What is yours?!”
“I think I’ll just call you Ada, Adadelleia.” She said surprised to be smiling. “My name is Rebecca!”
“I’ll just call you Reb, Rebecca!” Ada said seriously, shaking her head up and down.
Rebecca let out a laugh and then covered her mouth blushing. “Fair enough,” She said.
Ada giggled too. “you are so much prettier when you smile and laugh, Reb. Why were you crying earlier if you were not hurt?”
Rebecca stopped smiling, remembering why she was. “Well, Ada, I guess I was hurting, but not physically, emotionally. I was sad and angry. I still am, but meeting you has cheered me up a little.”
Ada was so cute, the way she cocked her head like a child when she was curios. “Why were you sand and angry?” she asked.
“Because I feel trapped.” Rebecca said, sitting cross legged in the field, and looking up at the grey sky. “I was dumb, and got into a relationship with a guy who appeared nice at first, but when we moved in together, he became abusive. When he gets angry, or doesn’t get his way, he yells and hits me. He treats me like crap, and says I can’t leave or he will kill me, and if I try to get help he will kill me. I just feel so hopeless.”
Rebecca looked down, surprised to see the fairy crying. “I am so sorry.” Ada said letting tears flow freely. “Nobody should have to live like that. It must be so hard.”
“It is my own fault,” Rebecca said. “I was stupid. I’m the only one to blame for my misfortune.”
“That is no excuse for how you are treated.” Ada said angrily, squeezing her tiny hands into fists at her side.
“Yeah… I just sometimes wish I could grow wings, you know. Fly far away from my life here, and never look back. Explore the world a free soul.” Rebecca said, glancing briefly at the sky longingly.
Rebecca caught a mischievous look on Ada’s face as she raised her hands toward her.
“What are you doing?” Rebecca asked.
“Be prepared,” Ada said. “This will probably hurt a lot for a few moments.”
Before Rebecca could say anything, a small bright blue light shot forth from Ada’s hands, and streamed toward her.
As the ball of light hit Rebecca, she was suddenly enveloped by a strange euphoria, before he back exploded with a searing hot pain, worse than anything she had ever experienced.
In so much pain, she couldn’t even scream, Rebecca passed out.
