There was no reason for it, no particular aim she had in mind. Was she still in the game or not? It did not matter to her anymore, to be exact, this game had never mattered to her. It was all a way to pass the time she had so much of, as well as extend her collection for the future use. The artifacts she would find, the beings she would rip apart, this was what she sought out of coming to this place. Lingering her however, she felt a tug to her essence, a pulling at her soul.
And she was starting to regain memories of her past.
The bits and fragments she received into her nightly dreaming was giving her the knowledge she had banished from herself, so she would not go insane. Pretty soon she would need to re-strengthen the spells. For now she could not simply leave the game she had started so she would head back to the place it had all started, and find the mysterious headmaster there with any luck.

Ren's arms were full when he fumbled to open the door to his dorm apartment. He shuffled into the room, unable to see the floor and consequentially, stubbed his toe on the large shield that had been magically delivered to his room. The moon sprite gasped, eyes welling with tears as he dropped his belongings and started hopping around on one foot while grabbing the toes that he'd stubbed. Looking down and seeing a shield lying on the floor, Ren whined. "I don't know how you got in here but you're supposed to protect me - not hurt me!"
Due to the lost interest for the event; I have decided to cut it short. This means that there will be less badges, but no worries, for the people that have made their way through the event and finished all chapters, they will still get the super special event badge, ah!
For people that missed one badge there is the chance to get one badge now by writing a selfpara of +500 words as they hear that the portal has closed.
A post with the finishing information for the event will be posted later.
Sadly I could not finish the last two chapters to end the event properly, but I still hope all will have enjoyed the ride!
The information on how to get the last and final badge will be posted later today or tomorrow.
Ren glanced up from his desk, eyebrows rising when he saw the late hour. He stood up, moving slowly and quietly over to the bed where his patient slept. He reached for the curtain to pull it closed, a soft gasp escaping his lips when he saw that the girl was still awake. “Oh no!” he exclaimed softly. “Can’t fall asleep, my dear?” Ren asked sympathetically to the ill girl. He couldn’t give her any more medication but there was something he could do to help her sleep.
The nurse pulled the curtain around her bed, hiding her from the rest of the large hospital-like room and allowing the moonlight to shine down on her bed. He walked over to the window and opened it, slipping out of the little white flats he wore before hopping up on the windowsill. He pulled his knees up to his chest and leaned against the frame, blonde head tilted up to look at the moon.
Ren’s magic lullabies didn’t need words to work but the majority of his vast repertoire of material was about love, war or the moon. If the moonsprite was going to sing, you could bet the song would be about one of those topics. Tonight was no different. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, deciding on a romantic ballad that he hadn’t sung in a while that was about lovers separated by war.
His voice was sweet and smooth, alike to that of a choir boy’s but deeper. He sang the song a few keys lower than the original melody and slowed the pace to a soothing speed. He kept his eyes closed as he sang, lifting his voice to the moon and basking in her light.
Cream and buttermilk hued robes flowing; fluttering as the troupe of beautiful dark haired maidens walked slowly through the center of a majestic city in the Elven Realm. The Sleep Thieves – a fabled group of traveling Musica, who were said to have such haunting voices and sing such entrancing melodies that it was impossible to sleep for a night after hearing them. They were followed by instrument-toting minstrels of mixed races, men enchanted by the beauty of their song that had vowed to accompany and protect them until they could no longer travel. It was a rare occasion that the nomadic songstresses visited the realm so man, woman and child lined the streets to hear them.
The Musica, Liandra stepped to the forefront, raven hair framing her face like the rest of her ‘sisters.’ It was her turn; it was time for her to raise her voice and sing the song from which she was born; a song that spoke of love and hope, the fear of loss and the loneliness and heartbreak of war. She closed her lilac colored eyes as the women around her began their chant before she broke through their harmony with her clear, pure voice.
Sleepthief - Here I Confess
Walking out through the door
You turn to smile once more
Will you feel my love when you're alone?
In a warzone far from home?
Here I confess
I may be falling down
May break
And here I'm ashamed to wish you could run
Could hide 'til peace comes
There's so much that we share
Our secrets and all our fears
I'm afraid the war will change
What we have here
Now that our journey is apart
How different our days will be
What will you see that you can't tell me?
Here am I
Holding on to love
More than life
But here! -Here we are saying goodbye
Not forever I hope
Tell me, what will I do without you?
I'm strong, I'll bear it all
But alone, even the bravest of hearts can fall
Faith will be tested and the truth will be denied
Yet after all, fate will decide...
Here I will stay all of my life
I'll wait for your kiss and your smile
And here, I'll believe I'm in your arms
Pulling you closer to me
Beautiful. Exquisite. The compliments were whispered in awe-filled tones but one small voice stood out in the silence between songs. “But Papa…why are her shoes red?” a small Elven girl asked her father, tugging on the sleeve of his robe persistently.
A handsome human bard paused upon hearing the girl’s question. He smiled as he stooped down to her eye level, the rest of the troupe passing on without him. “You’re very bright to notice such a thing, milady,” he complimented the now beaming child. “There was once a young Musica who wore red shoes. She tried to return home to her family at a great time of need…during a terrible conflict…she came very close to reuniting with those that called for her, but before she could…” the bard explained softly, trailing off as he offered a sympathetic smile to the girl who now looked so sad knowing the reason.
“Her story is dear to many Musica but to Liandra especially, who was born with the feelings of love and loss separated by war, in her heart. So that, my child, is why she wears red shoes…”
Ren’s eyes slowly drifted open. His heart ached as he remembered the vision he’d seen but he was hot…so hot. He blinked against the sunlight, raising an arm to shield his eyes from the morning sun. Somehow he’d fallen asleep where he’d sat the night before and miraculously he had not fallen onto the hardwood floor or out of the ground floor window. Of course after sleeping with his legs pulled to his chest he was terribly sore. Ren groaned softly as he looked out the window at the beautiful academy grounds. Something red caught his eyes, a now familiar sight.
Ren smiled faintly, no longer feeling haunted or frightened by their presence. If anything, seeing the shoes reminded him of a dark time but a time that the Academy had survived. The Academy had since grown and was now thriving; would continue to thrive. If similar events repeated themselves, surely the same would be true. Ren exhaled deeply, closing his eyes as he did so. When he opened them again, the shoes were gone.
The little moon sprite smile genuinely this time and turned to set his feet down on the infirmary floor and get to work for the day. His heart felt light as he was placing his feet into his shoes but when he looked at them he realized that even though they’d previously been white, they were now red! Shocked by the transformation of his own shoes, Ren gasped loudly, pulling his feet back up and away from them. Consequentially the moon sprite threw his balance off and before he could catch himself, he’d toppled head first out the window and into the bush below.
The air was filled with ashes, dancing down in the air. Fairy dust twirled around with the grey flocks that had once been her. "Find her sister!" The headmaster screamed, tears running down their invisible cheeks. As they started crying the thunder clouds collected above the academy and it would pour down for 8 days and 8 nights. The sunsprites were scared and the dragons sat upon the roofs with their golden eyes that searched the land for the missing girl.
Red shoes were carried by the headmaster to a room so sacred that no one could enter. The headmaster let the two small shoes fall into the fountain of all that had passed. The fabric colored a darker red as soon as it hit the crimson and then slowly disappeared. The headmaster would never draw again after that day. Instead they picked up their violin and played the song, they played the song until the sister had been found. They played the song to ask her back.
Please, please come back home.
The corpses of necromancers scattered around the academy. Warlocks repairing the shield around the academy and witches making sure that all the enchantments were back in place.
Please come back home.
Were animals were allowed to shift during the day as they helped disposing of the corpses, dragons burning the enemies and the demons that were part of the academy sending the remaining Necromancers back to join the others in the dark realms. Angels from all religions had not been there, their place was not at the academy anymore since the humans needed them more. Religions all over the world growing and needing their guides. The demons blamed the angels for abandoning them, the elves stared into the sunset, dreaming of another world.
Please come back home.
Then, underneath the body of a slain dragon there were two little feet. Feet without shoes. Little toes peeking out of ripped socks, a dark blue skirt stained and now purple. Crimson spots on the white blouse and long brown hair a tangled mess that framed the lifeless face of the sister.
And every member of the council was crying now.
You came back home, but not as I wanted you to.
The sky would be dark for four more months before a weak sun finally broke through again.
