A short film I created for my Moving Images class. Chroma-key and various inks on green paper were used for the effects.

MichMar&Mes Productions present... GWEN! Here's an unofficial movie poster Gracey illustrated and designed! We've already screened our video in class, but we're currently in the process of adjusting the sound and making a blooper reel for y'all! The wait is almost over! :)
This is a glass blue bird that Marissa's grandmother owns and we thought it was a perfect prop for some of the scenes considering how fond Gwen is of birds.
We tried to make this little guy appear in as many scenes as subtly as possible. But SHH! It's our little secret.
"That's a wrap!"
It's been a hectic and stressful yet rewarding gong-show of a month filming Braedon and Katherine! We've been in post for a few days already, but it's been a rollercoaster of emotions to get here.
Murphy's Law has played a huge part during filming because everything that could go wrong essentially did. We knew what we were getting into needing to film in so many locations to get the footage we wanted, but we've now learned to expect the worst.
Note: we're not complaining, we're just sharing our filming journey :)
Sound was the worst. The RODE blimp mic was always booked when we needed it to film outdoors, which left us with the Zoom H4N and the shotgun mic to capture sound. Not ideal, but thankfully we have Michelle who took a class in sound design.
Oh, Vancouver weather, so unpredictable. There were countless times we've had to reschedule filming because of rain.
Scheduling was surprisingly difficult considering we're a small group. Work conflicts would cut our days short, upcoming auditions for our talented actors would cancel a shoot, and at one point Katherine had tonsillitis :(
Renting equipment at our school library was a war zone, especially during weekends, so we learned the hard way to book equipment in advance. A filming day had to be cut short because of equipment shortage, like in one instance we didn't have a lighting kit.
At this moment in time, we have all our scenes cut, but it definitely wasn't easy getting to this point, but we're so happy to have survived!
Keep checking in for some teasers leading up to our official video link :)
Character profile for Gwen
We channelled inspiration for our character from Margot Tenenbaum of The Royal Tenenbaums played by Gwyneth Paltrow. We just loved her stoic and non-enthused demeanour and wanted to inject some of those qualities into our Gwen. For our Jordan, unfortunately, we didn't have a solid idea of how he would be, but as long as the chemistry between him and Gwen worked we were happy to work with anyone. Luckily, when we auditioned Braedon, we knew he was a great fit!
We are so stoked to show what we've been working on for the past few months. Stay tuned!
A little (almost candid) photo album of the crew in our element!
Katherine is in character even when she's at Starbucks, ha! We wonder what Gwen would order...
Days Two + Three.
Our lovely actress, Katherine Ramdeen on the 'Gwen' set! And by set, we mean Marissa's grandmother's house.
If you want a great Canadian actress with range, who's fun and effortless to work with, and with her own killer wardrobe, hire her and support BC film!
