We stopped off in Decatur to hang and the @iberianpig did NOT disappoint! Seriously, my lady and I nearly ugly cried in front of our offspring because our tastebuds were on the brink of a true flavor explosion👅🤯Every #tapas dish we received was equally incredible. I don't remember the last restaurant experience I had like this and the entire family agreed this was nothing short of next level. . Whatever dark arts were responsible for the flavorful results in the @chgrestaurants kitchen this evening🪄, we were there for it! Haha. Shout out to our server Nick who was incredible. The guy was a complete machine, so knowledge and personable. Iberian Pig – Tapas & Bourbon

Our first experience with the Iberian Pig was a night of celebratory drinks in Decatur Square.

The night started out with bacon-infused old fashions. These are definitely an experience but most people would probably max out after 1. They are made with one huge ice block in the middle of the glass and the liquor poured over it with a hint of mostly smoky, slightly bacon-y flavor added in. (On the website it is described as follows: The Iberian Old Fashioned-Bacon infused rye, organic maple syrup, Angostura bitters, orange and lemon twists $9)

I opted for the Decatur polo club, which was a great refreshing drink. This was a slightly citrusy drink that was topped with a flamed lemon peel. (I am partial to drinks that are lit on fire for some reason.) (On the website this drink is described as follows: The Decatur Polo Club - Pimms No. 1, ginger infusion, lemon, grapefruit bitters, Cava, flamed lemon peel $10)

We then moved onto beer and I asked the bartender to mix up a few shots. A few minutes later he had concocted a delicious shot with muddled berried, mint, and a few types of infused liquors they make in house. When I realized I somehow had to transport the beverages I just ordered to our table outside the bartender graciously came out from behind the bar to help me carry them to our table. (I think I appreciated that much more than my boyfriend did.)

We didn’t actually eat here at the Iberian Pig until a few weeks later when we had friends visiting from out of town. In true tapas style the four of us decided on 7 plates to share. Our friends ordered beer and sangria, Jake and I ordered drinks that we barely finished. Mine was the Hemingway Daiquiri, which I will never be ordering again. Anyway, our food choices ended up much better than our drink choices:

Grilled chorizo (with a raw vegetable slaw)

BWD- Bacon Wrapped Dates

Manchego Mac n Cheese

Pork cheek tacos

Vieras (scallops)

Pollo y cebada (chicken)

Braised Veal Shank Ravioli

Everything was delicious and is making my mouth water just thinking about eat of these dishes. However, two stood out above the rest for all of us. Those were the BWD (which I’ve had at a tapas restaurant in Chicago and make a special trip every time I’m there just to get) and the scallops.

We left the restaurant the perfect amount of satiated.
