With the Launch of MobileFirst IBM is a Global Leader in Mobile Commerce - No Really, They Are!
If you have followed IBM for a long time you may still think of 'Big Blue' as a hardware company but that actually changed back in 1995 when IBM purchased Lotus and began its journey to one of the world's largest software companies.
Now, fast forward to 2013 and you might be surprised to learn that IBM has an amazing software portfolio for mobile solutions in commerce and has been working to put mobile in as a delivery platform across its vast software solutions. Acquisitions like Tealeaf, Coremetrics, Unica and Sterling Commerce all have brought capabilities to address the mobile space to partner with native Websphere Commerce mobile capabilities. IBM took a major step into the mobile arena with the purchase of Worklight in 2012, an application development framework for the mobile space.
For the past few years IBM has been recognized as the defacto leader in analysis of mobile holiday shopping trends from November to December each year.
IBM has not been preaching something it does not practice within its own enterprise either. Last year IBM announced an organization-wide adoption of a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy enabling a full half of its 400,000 workers to bring their own smartphones to work.
And the strategy has already been working. IBM was recently listed as a market leader in enterprise mobility services by Forrester Research.
Today IBM has brought all its mobile work together under a new brand, IBM MobileFirst, a strategy that acknowledges the connected customer today and the massive shift toward mobile as the primary channel for communication.
IBM is now a formidable player in the mobile commerce industry and the rest of the world is finally sitting up and taking notice!
