Roto-Leak! CCTV Footage: Sandgem Pokemon Lab
The video flicks on to a downward view of Doomi and Shilo huddled at the entrance of the lab. They seem to be in a heated discussion, though it takes a moment for the sound to kick in.
"....-m really sorry, I was supposed to go to Twinleaf to visit my mom like, yesterday, it was worth it but she's PISSED Shilo."
"I thought you were gonna vouch for me to the professor..." Shilo whines in response, stopping just short of stomping her foot on the ground.
"I mean, you can come with me if you wannaaaa~" Doomi sings with a grin, "yknow... just go to the professor a bit later than planned, say hi to my relatives..."
Shilo seems to relax a bit at the invitation, though still remained tense. "I... I can't wait anymore I'm gonna fucking explode."
"And I don't wanna keep ya! Listen, it might be a lil bit but..." She shuffles around in her bag before taking out a very wrinkled and partially stained map. She shakes it out and points to a spot. "Look here, this is the first gym most people go to, Oreburgh, right? We can meet back up there in a few days, there's a lot of cool stuff so you'll have things to do when you wait, and you could try out the gym too!"
"What if he rejects me for a trainers license?"
Shilo mumbles something and looks away.
"What, are ya afraid I'll forget ya?" She gently boops Shilo on the nose, making her grin a little despite herself. "I never forget a face, let alone a friendses face! I promise we'll meet up there, just give me a bit of time to calm down my mom and dad. They thought I died."
The feed cuts out into static, before fading back into another security camera, this time in the lab itself. The professor is fiddling with a machine, muttering under his breath while his assistants scurry around pressing buttons. He perks up when he hears the door open.
"I'm afraid I'm a bit busy right now Lucas--" He cuts himself off as he turns around to see Shilo. "Hmph, you aren't on my schedule..." His bushy eyebrows furrow, "What brings you here, young lady?"
Shilo shrinks back before taking a breath and stepping forward.
"I'm here to... To be a trainer, I need a signwork on my paperoff-- wait- no-"
"You're here start your trainer's journey?" His eyebrows raise, "It's far past the season where most of the youngsters come through..."
"... But I suppose there isn't a limit to when we can start new things... Have you a picture ID?"
"A picture ID? If you were older it'd be a drivers license but anything will do, it just needs your name and picture."
"I... I don't have... One of those..." She deflates, staring at the floor.
"NO!" Shilo snaps her head up, fiery passion in her eyes. "You have to- you WILL let me be a trainer! I've... I've come so far, it's all I've ever," She forces back tears with a strained hiccup, "It's all I've ever wanted."
Professor Rowan stares down at the girl, imposing in size and expression by comparison. His stern eyes gave away none of his thoughts. They stare each other down, the research assistants silently watching on while they fiddle with their instruments nervously. Finally, the professor looks away.
"... Very well. What is your name, young lady?
"Uh...." Her eyes dart around, landing on a potted tree, "S... Sumac."
"Shilo Sumac?" He raises an eyebrow.
"Yes." She stands up straight, still trying to stare the professor down.
The professor shrugs and turns from her and begins typing a few things into a machine.
"Mmm.. Since you're so late in the season, I'm afraid I only have Turtwig left..." He murmurs as he clicks through windows on his computer. "He's rather old, actually, keeps getting passed up for being cranky, though I think you may have experience with that sort of thing." His eyes almost imperceptibly flick to her "hat" for just a moment before a mechanical whirring draws his attention. The old machine prints out what looks like a small ticket. He takes it and hands it to Shilo.
"I'm getting to that." He crosses his arms, "This will allow you to make a trainer profile at any PC. Pick what trainer class you'd like, fill in your name, let it register your new Pokemon, exedra, and it should print you out an official license."
"Yes, it's more of a fun little icon or a way to brag about how wealthy you are." He waves his hand in the air dismissively, "Most people choose the "Youngster" class first. But you aren't most people... are you?"
Shilo doesn't respond, taking the ticket almost reverently.
"I took the liberty of creating a box for you and depositing your new Pokemon--"
"OKAYTHANKYOU!!!" Shilo turns, but gets called back immediately.
"Hang on! Hang on." He raises his hands, "at least take your Pokedex and some extra common Pokeballs."
Shilo sheepishly takes her starting items before turning tail and rushing out the door, leaving the lab far quieter than it had been before.
"Sir..." One of the technicians says, rubbing his hands together "That's... Obviously a runaway..."
"Should we not... Call someone? The police? Or keep her here?"
"Hmm..." The professor closes his eyes as he sits in his chair, leaning his chin on his hands. "Now why would we do that?"
"It's just-- Uh... N-Nevermind sir."
"Kids deserve to start another story too, you know." He adds, a small smile forming under his mustache. "I think, perhaps, it isn't any of our business."
