Can I ask.... Would you be willing to give a demonstration of how you use aura? I'm trying to research it and how different energies are expressed in humans vs pokemon

Uh, sure. I can try at least.

Mare: So, basically, Aura is all about channeling emotions. For example, if I wanna use Aura Sphere I go like this…

She takes on an Aura Sphere stance, basically it's the same as Ryu's Hadouken pose.

Mare: Then I try to summon a really strong emotion. I usually go with anger or determination because those are kind of my default but any emotion works. It could be happiness or sadness, as long as it's strong it'll work. Once I summon my strong emotion, I channel it into using Aura Sphere by letting go of all rational thought. You know how sometimes you act purely on emotion without thinking? I basically have to do that on purpose. I need to let my emotions become the reason I'm making the Aura Sphere rather than for an intelligent reason like "I want to use Aura Sphere to win this fight." Like so…

Mare screams like a Shonen protagonist. Her one blue eye glows. She creates an Aura Sphere and then fires it at a tree, causing it to explode into splinters.

Mare: You Don't have to scream, I just do it on instinct. Again, letting go of rational thought. Though, I'm not entirely devoid of rational thought. I still need a little bit of it because I need to make sure that my emotions stay under control. I can't go full ham unrestrained because otherwise I risk hurting myself or someone else other than my intended target. It's basically the same thing as restraining myself from punching someone out of pure anger only instead I'm restraining myself from exploding, possibly literally. Of course, that's for conscious use of Aura. I'm always sort of passively channeling Aura. It's how I understand Pokemon, heal really fast, and have super strength.

She demonstrates by punching a nearby tree, leaving a fist shaped indent.

Mare: Though, I can also consciously channel Aura the same way I do for Aura Sphere to hit harder.

Mare: My empathic powers and Aura Vision work a bit differently because they involve other people's emotions, not my own. In the case of my empathic abilities, I actually need to channel my emotions to turn them off. They're sorta always on by default and that can cause sensory overload if there's too many people in one place. In order to block out other people's emotions, I need to summon emotions of my ien strong enough to overpower everyone else. Meanwhile, my Aura Vision is kind of weird because I basically have to stop trying to see, which is like trying to stop breathing. It works best when I close my eyes first because then there's nothing to see, so it's easier to stop trying to see.

Mare shrugs.

Mare: So, yeah, that's basically how it works. I'm sure Kyoshi could give a much better and more in depth explanation but she's not around right now. I have other abilities besides the ones I listed, like, I can use Bone Rush to summon a bone staff or use Extreme Speed (apparently, I haven't actually figured that one out yet) to turn my speed to the extreme but they all follow the same principle of channeling strong emotions and we'd be here all day if I listed them all. Hypothetically I can probably use any move Lucario can learn.
