Tw: depictions of bulimia, mentions of eating disorders
Obed had been concerned for Gabbie for the past ten minutes. She had been absent from the lunch table for that amount of time. Jake tried to assure him that she was fine. It was probably just that time of the month, he said, she likes to go into the bathroom for some privacy. That didnt sit well with him. For some reason, it just didn't seem right. So, for the remainder of their lunch period, Obeds gaze flickered back to the door, waiting for Gabbie's entrance that never came.
When the bell rang, everyone got up, save Obed, to leave. He made sure to give Aleshia an air kiss before he finally got up to find out where the hell Gabbie actually went. The first place Obed went to check was the bathroom. He didn't see a reason for Gabbie to lie as to where she was going. Obed just was not sure Gabbie was there for the reason that she made everyone aware of.
Pressing his ear to the door, Obed tried to listen for any sounds coming from within. Was... was that gagging? Shit. Obed knocked on the door quietly.
"Gabbie? Gabbie are you okay?" Obed asked softly. The retching stopped, but then heavy breathing started up and Obed threw everything out the window and opened the door to the bathroom and tried to find Gabbie. He knew that he shouldn't be doing this, but at this point he absolutely did not care about that. She was the only one in the bathroom, so finding her stall wasnt difficult, and she left the door unlocked so he was able to open it gingerly. Gabbie was sitting with her back pressed up against the stall wall, knees to her chest, panicking. Everyone and their mother knew Gabbie had emetophobia, so if she had been throwing up of course she was panicking. Obed sat beside her, pulling the girl who had a hard time breathing into his arms to try and calm her down. He tried to feel for a fever and felt nothing. "You're not sick so why did you..." Suddenly everything clicked. She left the moment she finished eating, and Obed found her throwing up. Obeds face fell pale, you could have mixed him up for a ghost. "Oh, oh my God, Gabbie." He felt so awkward and awful and bad for Gabbie all at once.
"I'm just so ugly, Obed," Gabbie choked, trying to breathe but she couldnt.
"No you are not, Gabbie where is this coming from?" His fingers laced through her hair while she tried to calm down. Obed could figure out why she was feeling like this. If your boyfriend was the school flirt, and had girls surrounded around him all the time, he would have felt that way too. Obed and Gabbie sat in a silence for a while.
"Dont tell him," Gabbie pleaded quietly.
"Please. Dont." She begged one final time. Obed couldn't bear to even look her in the eyes. He knew he'd see something reminiscent of a kicked puppy and he wouldnt be able to say no. No that it wasnt tho exact position he was in now.
"Fine." Obed agreed, rather reluctantly. "But you need to tell him at some point. Jake might be a jackass, but he doesn't deserve to find out about this the way I did. Okay?"
"Okay," Gabbie nodded, pulling her knees closer to her chest. Obed stood back up, ruffling her hair as he did. He just wanted to hear that giggle. And he was successful with that much, at least.
"Take the day off, and if I see you at any training today I will throw hands," Obed remarked. Gabbie snickered.
