Sada loves Ookurikara just the way he is, of course, but he is always encouraging him (sometimes silently, sometimes not) to open up more, be a little more free with his emotions.

But this is not what he had hoped for.

He doesn't like seeing the uchigatana shaken like this. Fear--especially away from the heat and danger of battle-- does not suit Ookurikara, and witnessing it now just makes Sada feel like he should be afraid, too.

They're on a simple expedition this time. Nothing even remotely dangerous has happened, except for Sada dropping a rather hefty chunk of ore on his pinky toe, and it's been smooth sailing, he thought.

But in their lodging in the middle of the night, he'd woken to the sounds of Ookurikara clearly having a nightmare, and had managed to jostle him awake.

"Okay," he assures him. He's not going to press for anything, but the look in Sada's wide amber eyes is clearly one of concern. What could he have been dreaming about to trouble him so much?

"I'm here."

"... Yes. I know that neither one of them left me of their own accord, and I know the same would have been for Kara-chan, too. But... that didn't make it hurt any less when the worry crossed my mind."

Sada knows Kashagiri was excited to have this special pudding with him, and quite frankly Sada was both excited for the pudding too, and appreciative of the fact that his friend wanted to share it with him in the first place. So of course it's totally reasonable for him to be annoyed about it being gone!

But, well, Sada doesn't want him to feel too bad about it, and certainly not on his behalf. So when he comes back with a frown set on his face, he does the first thing he can think of: pointer finger to middle of brow.

"Hey, it's fine!" He then uses both fingers to (gently) push the corners of Kashagiri's mouth into a smile. "You can tear your brother a new one later," he jokes, of course. "Maybe we can order something... well, maybe not as special, but something good still?"

Sada has just gotten paid.

He enjoys his job at a local grocery store well enough-- it's pretty active, and he gets to interact with and even occasionally help people. Plus, it's easy to make grocery runs after work since he's already there.

But of course, payday has fallen on a Saturday he has off, and all it takes is for Kashagiri to message their group chat that he's hungry for Sada to get an idea.

And so Sada waits for them at the train station that functions as one of their usual meeting places, taking the time to check out the menu for the restaurant they'd decided on.

It's not long, though, before he looks up to see two of his favorite people heading his way. He pockets his phone and gets up, scurrying over to them and pulling them both to him for a tight hug in each arm.

"Hey!" After the double-hug he readjusts so they can walk side-by-side. "Still hungry?"

Fudou hums in confirmation. "Absolutely. It's not a far walk, is it?"

"No, no, it's just a couple blocks away! And guess what-- it's the 29th, sooo... they've got a special on wagyu! Hope you guys are ready to eat to your hearts' content!"

Ookurikara had texted Sada at just the right time-- he had been contemplating whether or not he wanted to go pick up some snacks himself at the store, or just go to the vending machine downstairs. But this made the decision for him pretty easily.

So it wasn't long before Ookurikara swung by to pick him up for their official Fuit Gummy (and Maybe Other Stuff Too) Shopping Excursion.

"I wonder what else I should get," he muses from the passenger seat, one hand out the window 'dolphin-riding' the wind. "What are you going for again? I can't stop thinking about gummies, it's like I forgot what other foods there even are right now..."

Sometimes even Taikogane Sadamune runs out of optimism.

Sometimes, it's ripped out of him abruptly, without a chance for him to even try and keep his grasp on it.

The battle had been a blur up until that point, when time seemed to stand still-- Mitsutada had thrown himself in front of Sada, as an enemy oodachi had struck. Mitsutada had been run through, and even though the blade had still pierced Sada, the impact had been severely lessened.

Sada would not have survived the brunt of such an attack in his condition, but Mitsutada himself was hanging on by a thread.

The incident had shaken the tantou so much that, he had to be held in place while the team made their emergency recall.

"Micchan--! Micchan, please... please wake up!" he'd cried, even despite his own moderate injuries, trying to follow as the tachi was rushed to the repair room, their saniwa not far behind. But Ookurikara's hold on him is strong enough, even despite his own surely-immense distress, and Sada just breaks down completely in his arms.

It's one of the things that helps keep Sada as fearless as he tends to be. He has the support, love, and protection of those closest to him, is deeply grateful for it. He's seen it in action more times than he can count, in moments when doing so would put their lives at risk. He strives to return it to them all with as much conviction.

It is, however, a bit rare for Ookurikara to outright say something like that, even to Sada... which only makes him smile more.

"I know, Kara-chan."

💋 kasha and sada?

To some who may not be too close or familiar with him, Sada might seem like he speaks without too much thought beforehand. Not in the way that he's careless or stupid, or doesn't pay care to those around him, but in the earnest, confident way of someone who frequently has something to say to make a day better in some regard.

Of course, it's not hard to see that he's deeper than that-- though it is true that he doesn't tend to dwell on things too much to the point of overthinking. But some words, even positive ones, take a little more care.

Sada has wanted to tell Kashagiri that he's cute for some time. But... it's more than a simple 'oh, Kasha, you're so cute, haha'. It's... 'Kasha, you're so cute and endearing, and I want to spend even more time by your side because I just like you so much...' replete with a longing sigh.

And that's not just something one can say willy-nilly, so he's been thinking for a while now about when could be a good time to say it.

But for all of that conisderation, one day it just comes out.

They've just finished field duty for the day, tired and quite muddy after a long few hours tilling and planting, but they enjoy each other's company enough that for Sada, and it seems for Kashagiri as well, it wasn't awful by any means.

They take a seat at the edge of the field-- they're already dirty anyway, what's a bit more?-- to rest for a bit before heading inside to get cleaned up. Kashagiri is talking to his cat-- it surely knows dinner is probably soon-- and Sada can't help but smile as he watches his expression as he reassures him that they'll eat in a little while, and...

Without thinking, the tantou leans over and presses a kiss to his cheek, beaming even though there is a visible blush on his cheeks.

"You're so cute, Kashagiri. Just... thought you should know."
