This is a prelude to a short collection i’m writing. Each one-shot will feature one dragon and a Viking. The Viking in question will be saying goodbye to their dragon. I decided to introduce the audience to this collection by writing a prelude. This is what happens when Dean gives us a trailer that makes me wanna explode with emotions.
PRELUDE
You may not believe me, but dragons existed at one point. In the darkest crevice, and the tallest mountain a wonder would breath, and hunt, and live. They were as common as vikings, and as vast as the open ocean. Threats came far and wide. Peace was on the brink of shattering. We took up arms to fight for our ways, and the things we held dear to our hearts. The obstacles made us feel like we were falling from cliffs, but we’d smash, and scream at the top of our lungs as a sign of our resistance. But these days are long over.
The creatures that swam our oceans, and scoured our cliffs vanished into the cracks of the world. I walk into caves that were, once, full to the brim of the beasts that brought comfort to the world. Now there is nothing but the empty abyss where silence is dominant and I am left to my thoughts.
In the days where we went from one to the other, I ventured to the tearful eyes of Berk, and recorded some stories to share with the future. Of the hardship and the darkness we settled into. To explain how and why. For on the day you read this, you will not understand our hearts, and our pain because you cannot see it. But with these stories, I wish to convey the desperation, the hopelessness and the loss of these souls, for they were a part of us. I share these with you so you can not only understand, but appreciate these dragons for that in which they shared with us.
My heart still mourns for the pieces of my life that drifted away with my dragons. I thank Thor you don’t have to share our pain. And yet I’m sad you will never live and remember the joys of dragons after we made peace. I can only hope that you treasure these stories as much as we, and remember.
