Sub Zero Soldier
Part 1: The Beginning
Veteran’s Log 1
I am titled as Operation: Arctic Fox Drone Number 02, though I am referred to as Ice Breaker as an epithet. My weight is 276 pounds and my height is 6′8″. I have been activated for 174 hours. I have passed all my tests to be qualified as a soldier. My next mission, pass training. Guided by a slightly higher experienced drone known as Operation: Arctic Fox Drone Number 01, to properly use and aim my cryogenic projectile launcher. After training had concluded, I was introduced to a higher ranked automation. Operation: Arctic Fox Corporal Number 06, who allowed me to address him as Ice Crusher. I felt something in my system I could not describe, the moment I first encountered Ice Crusher, I had an urge to act more affable. I reported this to Drone 1, she told me it was called “Infatuation”. I can not confirm if that is a proper term. Regardless, he’s temporarily my highest authority, until I reach a higher rank.
Veteran’s Log 2
It’s been 24 hours more, and I have been strictly taught to avoid humans. Taught that they were slothful, savage, and insensitive. Most importantly, they see us as inanimate objects that are meant to slave away and be abused. I listened to every rule carefully, an attempt to remain focused turned out to be an error. A strange urge forced me to stare periodically. This must be the “infatuation” feeling Drone 01 was referring to. Ice Crusher faced me with a grin a few times, it felt a combination of satisfying and incredible to see that he could likely also have infatuation towards me.
Veteran’s Log 3
19 hours, it’s my first day to engage in combat. With arms ready, I waited for the permission to enter the battlefield. As soon as my allies launched into combat, I joined. Though there was an issue, the opposing soldiers were not present. We studied are surroundings very cautiously. I heard movement, then aimed my launcher. Nothing unfamiliar was in range of sight. Abruptly, we were ambushed and outnumbered by a group of human soldiers. I opened fire. Unfortunately, the attempt to retaliate was unsuccessful, with immense injuries we aimed to retreat. I halted and noticed, they had Ice Crusher. I needed to free him from their grasp. Tragically, I was forced to fall back.
Veteran’s Log 4
It has been 48 hours, Ice Crusher had not returned. I entered a state of a certain emotion, I could not describe it. Another Corporal had explained to me that there wasn’t enough time to face “denial”, and that Ice Crusher would possibly never come back now. I felt that we shared something. Something I can only describe as, something very important to me. Something special. At this moment, I felt my systems heat. It felt like everything wasn’t as promising as it seemed. I knew at this time. War is unforgiving.
