It took me a few chapters to get into this book, perhaps because so many characters in so many different locations were thrown at me so quickly that I found it difficult to keep track of them.  But once I got past that, the plot began to advance and I became caught up in it.

Dr. Erica Daniels, a volcanologist, had her heart set on exploring the lunar landscape but was cheated out of the opportunity by her ruthless ex-lover and is given an assignment in Antarctica, instead.  She's tasked with investigating an anomaly that has scientists puzzled.  To research the curious hotspot, she must join forces with an unscrupulous British archeologist and a brilliant Russian physicist, the last survivor of his remote outpost.

Peeve:  Everyone's forehead wrinkles, creases, and furrows when they're thinking, and the furrows usually rise right into their caps.  I've never seen anything like that in real life, and the repetitiveness becomes annoying.

Praise:  The author obviously has done her research.  I recently watched a documentary about life at McMurdo Station and Jackson is spot-on with her descriptions.

The book is interesting, well-written and definitely worth a read.
