Nobody has ever understood you. Teachers, friends, parents, and you. You’ve never understood yourself either. And you feel like it will always be that way. But, just as long as you feel somewhat content with your life, you’re fine. Besides, why would you want anybody to know the true you?
Nobody has never really noticed you either. You found your friends because you were all outcasts. That’s one thing in common between you and them. You like the idea of your friends but don’t really enjoy the time together with them. And you’re fine with that.
School bores you. The classes are boring and simple, the teachers are annoying and are trying too much. The lunches served are below your standards but its food. You think.
Every summer, you’re alone at home, on your computer. What else is there to do? Work on summer school projects? No thanks.
One summer, however, a family moved to your neighborhood. Right next your home, in fact. They had two kids around your, with one being in the same grade as you. Your parents decide to meet the new neighbors and drag you along. There, you meet him.
Messy, black hair. Calm, dark eyes. Short, but cute. You don’t say anything to him. Instead, you sit there, flustered, waiting on your parents.
When the weather starts to cool and the school year rolls around, it’s always been routine; new grade, new classes, new teachers. Same friends, same lunches, same boringness. At least you have order in your life.
The homeroom teacher takes attendance, calling out names one by one.
“Ritsu Kageyama,” the teacher says.
“Here.” It’s the kid. The boy. The messy boy. The cute, messy boy…
Oh, god.
Do you…
Like him?
It appears so. You stare at him, looking away when he notices you.
The bell rings and you go to you first period. He follows you. You reach the classroom. You sit down in a desk. He sits next to you. What is he doing??? This is making things worse!
It turns out he’s in all the classes you have. When it’s time for lunch, he approaches you.
“Hey, could I sit with you?” he asks. You could listen to his voice all day.
You’re shocked but you couldn’t be happier. You answer yes.
“Cool,” he says in reply. You walk with him to the cafeteria. As you stand in the lunch line together, you have awkward small talk with him. Every syllable he speaks is calm and slow.
The first day goes by quickly. When the last bell rings, Ritsu goes up to you and asks if you’d like to walk home with him. Your heart skips a beat and you agree.
You reach the street you live on and he asks if he could go to your house. At this point, you’re not sure what to think. But still, you say yes.
You take him to the living room and you sit on the couch together. You start to talk with him, asking where he’s from, his interests, his hobbies, etc. It turns out that you’re not that different from him.
Out of nowhere, he asks, “Want to see something cool?”
Before you could answer, he pulls a spoon out of his pocket. He holds it up and makes a concentrated face. The spoon starts to bend.
What the fuck.
You tell him that it was awesome. He blushes and thanks you. The next moment, his lips are on your cheek.
He apologizes and picks up his stuff and leaves.
Wow.
You go to your room and lay on your bed, facing the ceiling. It’s been an interesting day.
But, you’re tired. You get up to close your room door, locking it. You tear off your skin and reveal yourself to be a small green ghost with red cheeks.
You go to your closet and pull out a long shoe box from the shelf at top. You open it to take out your favorite pair of joots. You put them on and you couldn’t be happier to be yourself.
