Have you ever had this happen? You're out and about, having a good time, one thing leads to another and you all of the sudden have a shattered phone? I don't suppose this led to laughter and "let's get ice cream." But for me it did. 🍦 • Situations that are out of our control and that are painful or stressful are the perfect opportunity to practice yoga. These times and problems can be called "duhka" in the practice. Duhka has many translations (difficulty, sorrow, pain, etc) so it's important for me to go to the root: duh (bad) and kha (axel-hole) Stay with me! Instead of thinking of the things as inherently bad or wrong, we can think of it here as not functioning or not fitting or not aligned with our true selves. Square peg, round hole kind of thing. • So what does this have to do with a broken phone screen? Well, duhka happens. 💩 Times when things don't go our way, happen. But by breathing deeply and recognizing that I am not my phone, I can let those feelings of uneasiness pass. I can also remind myself that it WILL pass, because duhka and all things are impermanent. • INQUIRY: When was a time you experienced huge duhka (uneasiness or discomfort) and how did you get through it? • #summerinasnap #anthrocontest @anthropologie @anthro_minnesota #broken #brokenphone #brokenscreen #brokenphonescreen #duhka #yoga #laughitoff #icecreamheals @ap_simpson #yogicphilosophy #sanskrit
