Life Lessons and Turning Points
I watched “Barber Shop 3” the other day. The movie takes place in Chicago, so the theme and plot have a lot to do with gang violence. Early on in the film a character is very briefly introduced who we learn is a star student, respects his elders, and has a strong work ethic. Naturally, this kid didn’t live to see the ending credits. See, as it happens barber shop proprietor Calvin (played by Ice Cube) has an adolescent son named Jalin and lately it seems Jalin has been falling in with the wrong crowd and is even considering joining a gang! This is not what Calvin wants for his son! Luckily for them, the honor roll student from the very beginning of the film gets killed in a crossfire. This tragedy inspires Calvin to take action and save his son from making a potentially disastrous decision. What bugs me about this is that promising star student at the end of the day only existed so he could be a tragic example. That seems kinda shitty considering how much effort he apparently put into that existence. If there is a higher power or something along those lines I really hope it doesn't hatch plans to teach life lessons like that. I wouldn’t want my entire life to add to me getting liver cancer so some kind can decide not to drink. That would be bullshit.
The classic hip-hop album by NWA "Straight Outta Compton." This epic album was the breakthrough for Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, & DJ Yella. With hits songs suck as "Straight Outta Compton," "Fuck Tha Police," "Gangsta Gangsta," "Express Yourself," "8 Ball," "I Ain't Tha 1," & "Dopeman." NWA is more than likely the most controversial album of our time. #nwa #icecude #drdre #beatsbydre #eazye #jerryheller #mcren #djyella #mcyella #straightouttacompton #gangstagangsta #expressyourself #8ball #fuckthapolice #dopeman #iainttha1 #parentaladvisoryexplicitlyrics #hiphop #rap #gangstarap #invention (at Compton, California)
