Am I seriously the only anti-IH out there that isn’t salty over the ending?
I mean, I’ve always disliked how their relationship was portrayed but even I saw Ichigo and Orihime becoming canon eventually and I braced myself for that possibility.
But it seems like everyone else, if they gave a shit, either fully supported IH or was too invested in IR to not get salty over what happened. Even though what happened was the safest and most reasonable thing to expect given Kubo’s time constraints. The relationship that had romantic connotations (however one feels about them) from the get-go got reciprocated while the non-romantic relationship remained non-romantic. It’d feel even more out of place if Ichigo and Rukia suddenly got together while Orihime’s feelings for Ichigo remained unrequited, whether she remained single or she got together with someone she never considered previously.
If Kubo was going to go in a different direction than what we got, it would have required devoting time to it. And Kubo wasn’t going to do that, whether the series got cancelled or not. Since the only characters that had confirmed romantic feelings that remained persistent in the story were Orihime’s and Renji’s, their feelings getting requited by the end was only natural.
And despite all this being clear as day even for someone that dislikes IH as much as I do, I keep reading the same “the author’s a sell-out!” and “all the development went to waste!” complaints that I got from NaruSaku when Naruto ended, from IR this time.
So I’m left wondering whether or not I’m alone in this.
