Iconic Creature Update: Throne of Eldraine

Throne of Eldraine and the associated brawl precons add 4 dragons and 2 hydras (Both of which are also turtles). The number of dragons in Mtg is now 200. Eldraine is a world without angels, sphinxes and demons since none are to be found in this set. With the next set being on Theros we might see some of the last two. This is bad news for angels, however, because Theros doesn’t have any of them either. 

My favorite of the new creatures is Opportunistic Dragon, capturing the flavor of a fantasy dragon who steels a person or object until slain. Second, is a tie between the two hydras for both being turtles. Third is the Shimmer dragon because I enjoy seeing the art on the Arena loading screen.

Iconic Creature Update: Commander 2019

This set added 1 new demon for the madness deck and 1 new dragon for the flashback deck. No new angels, sphinxes, or hydras.

Iconic Creature Update: Core Set 2020

Wow, there’s a lot to add for this set. A new cycle of mono-colored legendary creatures adds one to each type. Kaalia added a number of angels along with another rare demon and another rare dragon. Plus another rare hydra and a buy a box promo which is the first angel in naya colors. In total this Core Set adds 5 angels, 1 sphinx, 2 demons, 2 dragons and 2 hydras.

Iconic Creature Update: Modern Horizons

Modern Horizons adds 1 angel, 1 demon and 1 dragon, No new sphinxes or hydras.
