The increasing importance of ICT in social innovation addressing social and economic needs of emerging countries: Brazil and South Africa.
ICT plays a significant role in social and economic development of emerging countries, characterised by huge social divides and financial constraints, which affect access to services and economic opportunities of large parts of the population. These countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (aka BRICS), are increasingly addressing social, economic and digital gaps and approach standards of most industrialised communities.
In specific, Brazil and South Africa have developed strong relations as a result of the dialogue among emerging countries and share many similarities, among which a growing economy, development of policies aimed at reducing social gaps, poverty and criminality as well as a genuine interest in digital economy.
