Also the fights pretty much always ran the exact same way of ichigo almost dying by rushing headfirst in a fight and then getting an unexplained burst of power at the end to kill the other guy.
Yeah that I will admit gets a bit boring. Tite really likes his "omfg I'm getting rolfstomped LOLJKLOOKATMYNEWPOWER" fights.
Well yeah but you can do it without being ridiculously linear and predictable
I dunno, I think in some cases linearity and predictability are good things? like especially with serial reading in the style of manga, having too many plotlines can get ridiculous really fast (See also: LOST and Heroes). Predictability is nice since it creates a framework for the reader to rely on, and make it really super shaking when you break it. Like, you expect the protagonist to always be okay, but Claymore really turned things around by making people think that Clare was dead.
At least the show got ridiculously predictable and silly and without any real story other than GOTTA SAVE THE GIRL *loses twice his body weight in blood from practically throwing himself on their sword* - not to mention the silly ass sword evos
OI I LIKE THE SILLY ASS SWORD EVOS (real talk that's one of my favorite parts about the show, and things that draw me to stuff like Naruto and Hunter X Hunter - lots of ridiculous abilities. It's also a way to pave a path for a strong fandom presence. I have lots of thoughts on this and comparing it to MLP and HS but that could take a whole nother post)
I will say that the story of bleach really develops later on in the Soul Society arc. Going solely by episode titles on wikipedia, They chose to end the season on a pretty bad point if you ask me.
Basically when it went from having a story into FIGHT ALL THE GUYS ALL OF THEM KEEP FIGHTING AND RUNNING HEADFIRST INTO EVERYTHING RUN UP ALL THE STAIRS (when the main girl I forget her name gets basically arrested)
Well uh I think that's kind of just shounen in general?
like generally it's a big overaching plot (rescue Rukia) and tons of little steps to get there (kill this guy. Beat this guy. etc.).
I tend to take that sorta thing in stride as a genre thing. Kind of how you don't really question why everyone knows the same song in a musical???
The first season of bleach was good but it sorta fell apart after that
