Have you ever been on a rollercoaster so tall that by the time you get to the top, all of the little people and cars down below look like toy replicas? Do you know how it feels to suddenly rush towards the ground at hundreds of miles an hour with nothing but a bar over your head to stop you from flying from your seat? You realize the people and cars are real, and as you hurtle ever closer, their features come into view; you can see the bumper stickers on the cars, and your stomach plummets. The sensation tingles all the way down your toes and creeps up the back of your neck, adrenaline surging through your veins.
This is what it feels like to use Cerebro.
Charles’ mind is at once connected with that of the message-sender, the magic-wielder, the powerful entity Xavier now realizes is just outside on the school grounds.
“Bring the children inside. Quietly, without causing any alarm,” Charles murmurs to Hank, keeping his mind focused on the intruder, while shielding his thoughts with ease.
“Loki. I am Charles Xavier.”
If this is indeed the Trickster God Loki, Charles fears they may be in trouble. He’s painfully aware of the events in New York City, the fight the Avengers took on, and the many lives lost. In fact, the X-Men played a significant role clearing the rubble and looking for survivors in the aftermath. But through all that, he had been led to believe Loki had been captured and taken back to where he came from. Could he be responsible for the chaos spreading across the cosmos?
Charles is hesitant to reveal he knows who Loki is; if this is a trick, perhaps the other will show his hand if he believes him ignorant.
“What’s happening? Perhaps I am capable of understanding, but... I am not sure I believe it. I can sense... billions of minds, divergent realities. Infinite branches, that’s what your message said. But how?”
