1133 South Boulevard, Oak Park, Illinois. 150 Foot x 10 Foot mural designed and painted by myself. Spray Paint and Latex paint. The Bird in the first Image is a Red Headed Woodpecker, which is local to Illinois & is threatened by climate change. The second bird is the Downy Woodpecker. This mural is a continuation of my collaboration with @audubonsociety & #audubonmuralproject to help bring awareness to species threatened by climate change and to envision a solution. I would like to participate in creative urban planning to protect the threatened species we share space with. Last year in April I got a phone call asking if I was interested in painting a mural in Oak Park and if I would provide a price quote and a design. After 6 months of designs, contracts, insurance and emails, I was given the green light to paint October 17th 2019 in Chicago. The second day of painting it was so cold and windy I thought I would definitely freeze to death. I painted until Mid November and had to hold off until the spring time. So I went to paint in Miami, New York, Paris, Barcelona, Cairo, (<-pre cove) Miami. I got back to Chicago May 1st 2020 to finish up the project. The world definitely changed a lot during this creation of this project, a lot of the painting took on a whole new meaning in my mind. I worked almost everyday & finished up around August 6th 2020. We just had the unveiling August 18th. This is probably the most time I have ever spent on a project and I’m extremely grateful for the experience. I was definitely overwhelmed at times. I am feeling pretty accomplished to have finished this piece. I really put my heart into it and I hope you like it 🌸🐝. I created the design out of hundreds of photos I took in the neighborhood. I use photoshop to collage the images into a cohesive design and I project the design onto the wall. I then freestyle the details while also referring to my design. 4 months of painting in one minute If you need an outdoor activity in the Chicago area, I just finished my biggest painting at 1133 South Boulevard in Oak Park IL. Collaborative mural exhibit February 2015 In Bayview, San Francisco 15ft x 200ft Latex Paint and Spray Paint Another piece from my archive of work that I should have posted years ago. Here's a long story about how it all happened, just in case you really wanted to know... Back in 2015 I was working with @tyrafennell and @casteel.andrew to start what has become @imprint.city (a non profit to cultivate art to vitalize community). Andrew was starting a brewery @laughingmonksf and had an empty warehouse for a few months before they moved their equipment in. We decided to put on an art show to launch Imprint City and showcase a group of emerging artists. I was given the opportunity to curate a group of artists and cover the 3000 square feet of wall space with art. I am so grateful to the several artists that participated including: Painters: Michael Covington @ramazzottius , Zoe Ciupitu @ciupi_2 , Ace West @aguycalledwest , Izzy Moriyama @izzylovin @sadclout , Daniel Jones @cajonez Photographer: Chris Martin @chrispymartin Videographer: Chiao Chen @chiaochen Poet: Brennan Defrisco @deepsighted When all of the artists got together and we realized we had a huge warehouse to hang out, create art and get to know each other in for a month. We brought in a ton of paint and snacks, set up a picnic blanket in the middle of the room, played music, skated and painted everyday until the event. We all have different styles and most of us had never worked together. We decided to overlap our ideas and work with a freestyle approach, which at times was very difficult, but we worked it out. This was an amazing experience that I will always remember. Thank you so much to @casteel.andrew and @laughingmonksf for providing us the space to create and the delicious beer at the event. Thank you to @tyrafennell for being the visionary behind Imprint City and organizing the event among many others.
