Part 3 of 3 🌈🌸🐝 My biggest project so far... what’s next 😈😇 I hope you are all having a beautiful end of the summer. 💔 This mural is at 1133 South Boulevard in Oak Park Illinois. Spray Paint & Latex Paint 150 feet x 10 feet Painted between October & November 2019 then May to August 2020. The project was funded through the percent for public art rule that new buildings at a certain size have to commission a site specific piece for the public. If you are an artist I highly suggest looking up if your area has this rule and reaching out to you local arts council to be considered for future opportunities. I am so grateful to everyone who helped me make this happen including Lincoln Property and the Oak Park Arts Council. It was an honor to work with all of you. 1133 South Boulevard, Oak Park, Illinois. 150 Foot x 10 Foot mural designed and painted by myself. Spray Paint and Latex paint. The Bird in the first Image is a Red Headed Woodpecker, which is local to Illinois & is threatened by climate change. The second bird is the Downy Woodpecker. This mural is a continuation of my collaboration with @audubonsociety & #audubonmuralproject to help bring awareness to species threatened by climate change and to envision a solution. I would like to participate in creative urban planning to protect the threatened species we share space with. Last year in April I got a phone call asking if I was interested in painting a mural in Oak Park and if I would provide a price quote and a design. After 6 months of designs, contracts, insurance and emails, I was given the green light to paint October 17th 2019 in Chicago. The second day of painting it was so cold and windy I thought I would definitely freeze to death. I painted until Mid November and had to hold off until the spring time. So I went to paint in Miami, New York, Paris, Barcelona, Cairo, (<-pre cove) Miami. I got back to Chicago May 1st 2020 to finish up the project. The world definitely changed a lot during this creation of this project, a lot of the painting took on a whole new meaning in my mind. I worked almost everyday & finished up around August 6th 2020. We just had the unveiling August 18th. This is probably the most time I have ever spent on a project and I’m extremely grateful for the experience. I was definitely overwhelmed at times. I am feeling pretty accomplished to have finished this piece. I really put my heart into it and I hope you like it 🌸🐝. I created the design out of hundreds of photos I took in the neighborhood. I use photoshop to collage the images into a cohesive design and I project the design onto the wall. I then freestyle the details while also referring to my design.
