It happened back when there was the directory. Remember that? And all the categories were based on whatever metric but the sexuality ones were locked down to prevent abuse? I was one of like 8 blogs on that list and got an endless stream of followers for the months it was up.
The number'd been slowly but steadily dropping for the past couple years until recently, when there's been a new influx of people who I'm assuming are coming from a single very popular post.
It totally changed the way I blog and I'm all too conscious of the fact that I can't trust the attention I bring to people to be like-minded, which has really cut down on the amount of personal things that I write about other people and the amount of personal things from other people that I reblog.
It's also allowed me to put my foot in my mouth on multiple occassions and realize how privileged the point of view of flippant joking about horrible things is when you have no real connection to the things. I've definitely become less of a shit because of having an audience. Also getting older. That's definitely helping.
Sooooooooooooo that was kind of unexpected opening up about having a moderately sized internet following.
ETA: Oh I forgot to mention the decision I made to be the blog I'd want to read as a isolated queer teenager once I realized how many of my new readers were queer teenagers and I think it's a great driving force for SA&P.
