All 7 species of sea turtles nest every year from May 1st-October 31st. During this time, of you live where sea turtles nest, you can spot these tracks in the morning or even if your lucky, the turtle itself! Each species has a specific track that helps identify which species it is. This track is from a loggerhead. We know this because the middle of the track is flat and each flipper mark, indicated by the swirls, are alternating. Each track has a entry point, markings which indicate where the turtle nested and turned, and then a exit point. In this picture, the turtle came in on the right and exited to the left. You can almost see a “x” where each path intersected. I believe I have a good picture of the nesting area of the nests. If I find it, I will post it.

Imagine the strength and endurance it takes these turtles to come out of the water, crawl up the beach, dig in the sand to lay their eggs, cover them up, and then crawl back to the water. How exhausting!
