Prompt 14 - Equal
@jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic June 14, Word count 386
Previous part First part
It took two weeks before Sirius returned. James wasn’t used to not seeing his friend. He was so excited he waited by the door, peering through the peephole while bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet.
“People would think you were the puppy and not my brother, the way you’re waiting as waggy-tailed at the front door,” Reg scoffed, but James could see the fond smile he was trying to hide.
“Woof, woof,” James responded, not taking his eye off the corridor. “He’s here! He’s here! Sirius!!!” he called out happily, yanking the door open and pulling Sirius into his arms, lifting him off the ground and spinning him around. Sirius didn’t even complain; he wrapped his arms around James and hugged him.
“I missed you too; sorry I was gone so long.”
“Don’t care, just glad you’re back.”
“It’s a good job that I’m not a jealous man,” Remus joked as he followed Sirius into the flat.
“You knew what you were getting into when you asked him out,” James retorted, carrying Sirius over to the sofa and dropping them down next to Reg.
“Sirius,” Reg said in the way of a greeting.
“Regulus,” Sirius replied in the same careless tone.
“Hi, I’m Remus, and you must be Regulus, pleasure to finally meet you,” Remus said, pleasantly, holding out his hand to Reg and waiting. Reg gave the hand a suspicious glance, but offered his own hand, and they shook.
“Hi,” Reg grumbled, getting up from the sofa and moving to one of the breakfast bar stools. James let go of Sirius, dumping him unceremoniously on the sofa cushion beside him and went to sit with Reg while Remus took James’s vacated seat and pulled Sirius’s to his side.
They sat in awkward silence for a while, none sure how to continue until Sirius finally broke.
“I like puppy play, alright?” He cried out, his chest heaving as he overcame his fear.
The room fell back into silence.
“Oh my god, Sirius. Stop being so dramatic,” Reg scoffed, and the tension broke. James sighed happily as the brothers began to bicker, back to being on equal terms. He looked over at Remus and grinned; they were in for a lot of work, but it would all be worth it in the end.

Nobody is superior, nobody is inferior, but nobody is equal either. People are simply unique, incomparable. You are you, I am I. Osho
