soul mark + malfoy manor betrayal
this was the first @o0o-chibaken-o0o fic I’ve read and it’s such a gem. the moment where Draco chooses not to betray Harry at Malfoy Manor is such a fascinating part of the series and the addition of soulmarks just makes this even more heartbreaking and hnnnnnnnnngffff

The one where soulmates are able to tap into each others POV/see themselves through each others eyes. These flashes intensify as they get to know each other and as their feelings deepen.
Which makes it especially horrendous for Draco when he sees himself during Charity Burbage’s murder/Rowle’s torture, clearly from Voldemort’s POV. Not only does it confirm every awful thing he’s ever suspected about himself, it also tells him that Harry - the POV he’s been seeing until now - is no longer his soulmate.
The one where soulmates share their mate’s lowest moments. All 5 senses engaged but without the ability to communicate with or save their mate.
Which leads to Remus having near constant flashes of Sirius’ time in Azkaban and Sirius watching the man he loves grieve alone for his dead friends. The only upside is that Remus can sense that Sirius is innocent and so starts plotting to help him escape.
This AU would also mean that Draco is well aware of the way Harry is abused by his Muggle relatives but unable to stop it because a. Dumbledore and b. the soulmate thing only kicked in after he’d been a complete dick to Harry. The one where alterations to someone’s skin also appear on the body of their soulmate. Although to avoid creepiness only the appearance would carry over, not the accompanying pain/irritation of a new tattoo, piercing, bruise, etc.
Which gives us; Remus and Sirius communicating while Sirius is in Azkaban via. tattoos. And! Dean and Seamus and/or Ginny and Luna communicating with each other while Dean and Luna are imprisoned at Malfoy Manor.
Also! massive misunderstandings arising when Harry gets hit by a Bludger during Quidditch practice and Draco notices what he thinks is a hickey the next day.
